Vin decode help
Just acquired a c series Mercury and don't know year , etc. the door emblems say Mercury diesel. The engine is definitely a 6cylinder Ford diesel. It has bucket seats and a handbrake on the floor instead of on the dash This seems to be all stock.
Vin is 1516035L-178479F. Series is M-C600 wheel base 153.engine/ trans 366C08RHT-5H/D2C53. Trans C0TT7004H rear axle CC3TA400 and front axle 20 C0DE. Any help would be great but need the year for sure.

VIN 1516035L-178479F probably decodes as:
1 = Gasoline 8 cylinder (if it is really a 7, that would be a Ford diesel)
51 = C600 tilt cab/single rear axle/gasoline
60 = 1965 600 series
35 = 135" wheelbase
L = LH drive
178479 = 1965 model year
F = 19,510 to 26,000# GVW rating group
C0TT7004H = Clark 5-speed trans. model 251-VO-18 (which is applicable to Ford diesel)
20 Code = Ford-Rockwell 7,000# rated front axle
Should be a different engine code on main warranty plate, couldn't find anything on "366C08RHT-5H" (if it is an "E" that would be a Ford diesel),
might look like "E-5' (Ford diesel, 5-spd trans)
This from Ford Parts List, may or may not be the most current info...hope it helps
