Please take a look at the VIN on your truck again. It has 17 digits, not 18.

I cannot decode it until I know which digit was added in error.

Welcome to FTE

1FD = FoMoCo USA, incomplete vehicle.

N = Class 6 ~ Gross Vehicle Weight Rating range: 19,501-26,000 lbs.

F70 = F700 (gas).

H = 370 2V or 4V (FoMoCo uses the same code for both).

3 = Check digit, FoMoCo use only.

E = 1984.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

A17576 = 1984 Numerical Sequence of Assembly, the trucks specific serial number.

9E = Special White / 87 = ? 87 is not listed until 1988. Is the truck tu-toned? If not, 87 applies to something else.

171" Wheelbase.

F701 = F700 (gas), 23,100 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

FHB: FH = Tan all Vinyl // B = Standard Cab.

SP = Spicer Model 4054D 5 Speed Manual Transmission.

E0M:

E0 = Eaton Model 16244 Two Speed Rear Axle / 6.14/8.54-1 / 17,500 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

M = Ford Front Axle w/Power Steering / 7,000 lb. Front Axle Capacity.

Having the codes on the Certification Label mis-aligned is typical, makes it difficult to figure out.

Look below where it says "Spring" for two (or more) letters.

Took me awhile to decode this jazz.

Having to step over one Basset Hound to get oughtta the chair in front of the computer, then walk around the table to the microfiche viewer, then step over another to sit down in front of it, is the reason.

F70 = F700 (gas or maybe diesel).

B = (sigh) FoMoCo used the B VIN engine code in 1979 for 4 different engines.

Is it a gasser or a diesel? The only way I found out which engines were offered, was to troll thru the engine sections of the truck parts catalog for the applications

300 1V I-6 (not installed in 700 and larger series trucks) / 370 4V / Two diesels, Caterpillar V190-3208 & Cummins KTA.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

FA5629 = 1979.
