Replacing alternator in a 1994 f150. Forgot the engine size. I know a list of cars that will work. But I read a thing about changing a wire or its a fire hazard?
which wire is it?
does it plug in or does it need to be spliced in?

Well you have three possibilities...you either have the 300(4.9 liter) six, or one of two V8s, a 302(5.0 liter) or a 351(5.8 liter)...I believe they all use the same 95 amp alternator...
They are plug and play...just disconnect your negative battery terminal first then disconnect the harness and one red wire with an eyelet and reconnect to your replacement alternator.
Those pics show the 3G alternator that you cannot use. Mounting is all wrong.
Believe it was a 3.8 Taurus 3G alternator that will work.
The wire you are asking about is the plug in the high current output common to the 2G alternator that your truck was originally equipped with. The 3G alternator uses a stud and nut. The wire, which just runs from the alternator to the battery connection at the starter solenoid needs to be upgraded as well.

I have a 1994 F150 which had a 300 six and now has a 351 swapped from a 1995 F250 and trust me I have installed that alternator...

What do you mean by “I know a list of cars that will work”? I feel like I’m missing something here.
Go to the parts store and tell the part-looker-upper what you have. They give you an alternator (hopefully the right one). Go home and install. Whenever I have purchased one, it came with the new connector/plug.
Adding to all that has been said, you'll only need to replace the harness if your original alternator was a 2G (external fan). If you already have a 3G OEM then you just need to find a replacement with the proper mounts (as pictured) and replace. If you think you'll need the extra amperage go for the big case (check Scndsin pictures out, the big case 130A has 2 holes x 3 in the frontal cover vs 4 holes x 3 in the small case 95A one).
