I have a 2010 F150 I acquired used about four years ago. It has always had the issue of the headlights coming on anytime the truck is running regardless of what position the switch is in. Any idea why this is happening and how to correct? Thanks!
It sounds like you have daytime running lamps enabled. I believe they are required by law, and it's been a fleet ordering option for over a decade. Do you know if your truck used to be Canadian or owned by a fleet?
If so, you just need to have that feature turned off in the PCM. I believe there's a way to do it with ForScan, but that's going to take some research to find the correct thing to change. Your dealer could also do it, but they would likely charge an hour's labor for the tech to hook up and make the change.
Thanks Tom. I believe you are right. I found several youtubes and posts saying dealers will not disable it but another solution is to unplug the resistor behind the driver side headlight. It apparently drops the voltage to the low beams from 12V to 10V for the running lamps. With it unplugged, the lamps get 0 volts!! Appears others have had no issues doing this Thx for pointing me in right direction
