Need help with fuel problem

So I have a 1987 ranger, v6 motor. I thought my feul pump had gone out so I replaced it, but the new one had no power. I replaced the relay, still, nothing. I tested the connection with my voltage meter and it read at around 9 when the key was on. When I try to start it the power cuts out and I still get nothing. When I unplug the fuel pump gas comes out from the tank end, but the end to the engine is bone dry. Today I hooked up a code reader but it didn't give me a code, only the testing signal for 10 minutes. What do I do?

I dont know much about your year model but have you checked the plug in for the relay? Supposedly on the mid 90's the fues panel under the hood would corrode causing fuel pump issues so take a look there. Also I dont know about a circuit for fuel shut off but again on the later models there is supposed to be a switch of sorts under the passenger kick panel? So look for it also.
If nothing else see if you get fuel flow if you hot wire the fuel pump direct so that will help you in your search for problems.

Sorry cant be more help.
