I'm buying a 2001 F250 from my cousin later this week. The truck has right around 200k on it. I'm buying the truck mainly to pull my 32' Copper Canyon 5er. The camper maxes out at 12k. I'll be putting a DP Tuner in it as well. My question is this... Would it be wise to put a shift kit in a transmission with that many miles on it? The intended kit is a transgo tugger.
I rebuilt the transmission several years ago in my 2000 F350 DRW that I had. I put a tugger kit in it and was very pleased with the way it pulled after that.
I would like to echo what Dan V has said, especially the tuner choice. Check out 1023 tuning, Gear Head, SDK and the like before committing to the DP setup.
So the high mileage doesn't concern you? Also, what's up with DP? I've been out of the game for a while since I sold my dually 5 or 6 years ago. DP was the go-to for 7.3s back then?
I've got the tugger shift kit and dp tuner in my truck. I've been happy with the set up, pulls my 5er great. I'm not one to mess with changing tunes so DP tuner has worked fine for me.

I put a DP in mine around 2007, and no problems at all. I especially love the eshaust brake tune. However, I hear the tunes are cheaper elsewhere. Stiil, with any tuner, you should consider installing at least an EGT gauge.

Yes sir! The truck has a trans temp gauge in it now. Single pod pillar mount. I plan to change that to either a 3 or 4 gauge pod with EGT, Trans temp, and boost and/or a pressure gauge for my air bags that I intend to put on it for pulling my 5er. Thoughts on a boost gauge? Need it? Don't need it?
My opinion only: Boost gauge not critical like EGT and Trans Temp, but fun to have and could even help diagnose problems on occasion. As long as you're putting in gauges, I would get it. It's not hard to put in. Also, I like the lower dash gauge mount better than the pillar. Also easier to install gauges than the pillar. You could leave the trans temp on the pillar and get a 3 gauge dash mount, and have room for EGT, Boost, and maybe even fuel pressure? I like ISSPRO, but there are other good gauges out there.
I like the idea of easy installation, for sure. The ONLY positive for a pillar mount is it being "in your face", in my opinion. Unfortunately, it makes a blind spot as well. I'm leaning heavily towards a pressure gauge for my airbags, regardless. I'm not going to have a pump, but I'm going to mount a tank under the bed, with a regulator in the cab. There will be at least a gauge for air bag pressure, probably a gauge for tank pressure and bag pressure. That may be the answer to my question, a three gauge under dash mount with 2 air gauges and an EGT.

I found Airlift 5000 airbags on Amazon for $265, including all mounting hardware. All the rest of the stuff (gauges, regulator, etc) I already have laying around.
We have a 2004 F250 that is used as a rescue/first response vehicle at the fire department. It has a slide out in the bed, and used to be greatly overloaded. We put airbags on it to level it so we didn't spotlight the treetops while driving it. We recently bought a 2006 F550 to replace it. It's only used for pulling our air trailer now, as well as transportation to and from classes, etc. The airbags are great on it. That's what convinced me that they're indispensable
