Best economical engine replacement
My 352 gets terrible milage. I know I know. I'd like to swap out the 352 for something that both bolts in and gets good milage. 302 injected maybe? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

A 240 six with some upgrades bolted to a M5OD transmission.
Neither the 240 or 302 or anything other than a FE is a "bolt in".
What trans do you have? Your bell pattern is unique to the FE, so your new motor will most likely have to bring it's own transmission.
You might save gas, but you won't save money. (unless you drive it a lot of miles of course)

Thanks for the reply. Besides the horrid mileage, it's starting to leak like crazy. Hmmmm. It's beginning to look like either rebuild the 352 or let the truck go. Dang.

If you're set on a small block or find one at a reasonable price, C6 transmission's can still be gotten fairly cheap. It's the price of the C4's that I've noticed have gone through the roof. But Small block 2wd C6's are all day long from especially 1981 right up to around 1996? And was even not totally unheard of in 73-79. 78-79 especially had many.

Maybe read this thread before giving up on the 352. Maybe just a tranny and or rear gear change. Gaskets are cheap.
