I run the lug nuts in with the impact on a low setting, then put it on the ground and do a final torque, but if you want to do it in the air then yes engaging 4x4 works.

You can put a block of wood or something between the ground and tire while still in the air. As the tire rotates it wedges the block of wood, or whatever, into the ground to stop the tire for rotating. Or you could have someone put the brakes on.

A brake pedal depressor is a handy tool when working on tire, brakes and the like.

easy to make or cheap to buy, I made one using an old caulking gun.

Just put a prybar against the seat and pull the seat up.

That's exactly what I do. Put the lugs on finger tight, lower the truck until the tire is about 1" off the ground, set a piece of 2x4 on the right (as your looking at it) side of the tire and torque things down. After I drive about 100 miles I'll do a torque check. The rears usually don't move but the fronts do as those take a lot more lateral force since they turn.

That is interesting. I usually use a windshield ice scraper /bush or a long handle pry bar. Done it a number of times when bleeding brakes
