k so got my hands today on a 1985 f150 single cab long box with a inline 6 300 , i would like to make a full rebuild , but no fancy interior due i might uses it for work lots during the summer
. the truck has no spark so far the truck got
1995 zf-5 swap
1995 f150 axles ttb 4x4 swap

i could have a 1960s era rebuilt engine for 350$ for temporary

id like to fully rebuild the engine thats currently in it now! . so far ideas for parts are
-Offenhauser C Series Intake Manifolds 6227C
-390 CFM Classic Holley Carburetor

id like to know for more parts i should look into to get this truck to tow 7k-11k and still build a reliable workhorse/daily driver that wont drink like a 460! , i uses to have a 1986 f250 with a banks turbo 7.3 idi and a 1997 f350 7.3p.s so im new to the gas world,

heads up this will take a while for meed to collect tools and $ for the build so this will be a slow progress thread

It's a little over the top in its current state but it does appear to be rust free. I'm not a fan of the roof visor but I love the headache rack and rails. Also loving the long bed.
I could probably live with the Mopar hood scoop and it might help keep the engine bay a little cooler.

See if you have a vacuum line going to the distributor. If you don't, you have the electronic engine control, you will most likely want to get rid of that. So that means a different older style distributor, or a aftermarket HEI distributor.

Honestly I would avoid an HEI dist for the fords. We put two in a hot rod 351W stroker engine and they don't last. Could be his engine has slop causing the wear I don't know but we went through two of them in about 250 miles.

I bought a used engine and had it rebuilt. Came with a davis(DUI) ignition. 4 years plus and not a problem. I would recommend using Davis Unified Ignition if you’re going that route

Don't think the one we used was a DUI. I know the coil cover doesn't say DUI on it like it should. Not sure what brand it was.

I know I personally wouldn't go this route on mine as I am keeping the oem wiring harness just dropping in a newer engine with some back dating on the exhaust and induction.

thanks for the advise on the (dist) il look into it more on forms , so far im garbing all measurements of the front end frame and cross member going to try make (design) my own RSK kit for a Dana60 axle prob from a 94-97 f350 with SD springs , also i want to beef up the frame so once i can il try design other cross member and a new HD transmission cross member cause my stock one i got from the 95 f150 for my zf5 looks week as **** ! i know from 80-97 the frames basic dimensions are the same for thickness and design just the front bumper part is a bit different , i got my buddy 94 f250 and my old 97 f350 frames to go for knowing this , this week end i blue my alternator/clutch fan belts (both) hitting the biggest hole i could find ! these truck are monsters off-road i have already 6 buyers asking me to sell my truck to them ! overheated my truck trying to drive it back home ! just look up the web site rockauto ordered the 2 belt (hope there the right ones) and a valve cover gasket to stop its current oil leak till i can get the $ for a full rebuild of the 4.9! , got also new ideas for the build , like a better green paint job with green LED under-glow , LED headlights/tail lights and turn signals ! will need to patch up the floor a bit also if i can get a welder to weld aluminum i think il build a dual battery setup like in my 97 f350 7.3 but aluminum baskets and also a new radiator overflow tank and windshield washer tank , anyone know were i can find a new dash unit with rpm gauge or a way to make the speedometer work ! my 95 axles is a electronic and the 85 is by a mechanical wire ! or should i just build or find a custom dash setup and new modern gauges ? i also want to clean up the engine bay a bit remove all i don't need and clean up the wiring ! , today i also learned i have cruise control and that my choke plastic thing for the wier-carb is broken so i got no choke ! will need to fix that! also would a 2 row radiator come handy if i plan on towing ?

I added factory tach in my truck. You should be able to install easy into yours. Start checking your local yards because they’re getting harder to find

The picture below is the charcoal canister. One of those lines comes from the fuel tank or tanks. The other should be a purge line. Instead of venting the gas tanks into the atmosphere, they vent them up those lines and store the fumes in that black box which has charcoal in it. The next time you start the engine, the engine sucks the fumes out of the charcoal and burns it. Take this out and you will get a gas smell in the engine compartment. Plug the lines and you will build pressure in the gas tanks. Convert to a vented gas cap and you will be reverting back to the old days, with some gas smell back at the filler for the gas tank.
