1959 223 Inline 6 Engine Color

Hi there - getting my 223 Inline 6 engine rebuilt currently. Truck is a 1959 F-100. Custom Cab, Short Bed, Factory 4x4. Work is done, waiting on a new radiator but the engine is dropped in and all looks well but the problem is that the shop painted it blue.

Was wondering what the original colors were for this engine?

From my understanding it's supposed to be a red valve cover, black on pretty much everything else right?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

This doesn't address your question, but these are the colors for a 52:

Sorry to be wondering around out of my usual area with out of date information, but good luck with your project. I used paint from Bill Hirsch and was happy with it. The engine color is Lincoln/Mercury Light Green. The valve cover color was custom matched to the original.

What you described is what I was also told for the 1960 F100 with an I-6. Engine black, valve cover red.

Yes, that is what The Number Dummy said the 60 should look like so I did mine accordingly. The '59 color escapes me presently.

Hmm... My air cleaner is black. On mine, the decal talking about using only Genuine Fomoco parts is pretty much intact and the outline of the engine callout decal is at least still visible, so I'd say it's factory. Wonder if some were painted red? My truck was assembled in Kansas City, but I don't know if that makes any difference if the engines came from somewhere else. Cleveland maybe? I don't know where they built the y-blocks or 223's.

Oil bath or paper element type? Rare black and white photo of a brand new '59 with 292. Color photos are next to impossible to find.

Mine is the paper type. Looks exactly like the one on your 223 six, but it's black. Only the valve cover is red on mine.

58 F100?

Just piggy-backing on this thread. Stock engine colors for 1958 F100 with 223 INLINE? Currently trying to bring one back to life for a daily. the stock engine is very discolored at this point but the block looks to black, cover almost tan? not my truck originally and things look repainted and would love to eventually bring it stock. thanks so much

Black block with a Ford red valve cover and oil filter housing. O'Reilly had the red engine paint in stock when I did my '59.

Painted oil filter housing as well.
