So I am going to look at an 83 E150 it has the 4.9L st8 6 and a 4 speed manual. It's out of California. Don't have a picture but it's a cargo van with the window in the slider door, no windows on left side and windows in the rear doors. More or less tan in color. Seller is asking $1000, and it has virtually no rust on it. You guys think it's a pretty good deal or should I keep looking?
I really wanted a 68 - 74 E100 shorty like I had in 1982 that was stolen.
The older brother of my '85. Mine had a spot of rust behind the rr wheel when I got it in '91. That's a decent price imo. I didn't try hard to sell mine and had no bites at $800. I eventually got $4500 for it via c4c. But when I was looking for this combination in '91, they were few and far between. If the body is straight I don't see how you can go wrong. There are some concerns with these but nothing that will surprise you.
The older vans just have the rounded look and nostalgia that I like, the 80's were always so boxy, but I figured NO RUST, is a plus, and if the inside is empty, that means I get to start with a clean slate for a weekend camper, It's just me and the wife now, kids are grown so we don't need more than the 2 captains chairs in front. Not sure what kind of MPG I'll get from the 6cyl though.
Thanks for your input.
18 if you drive it easy. The 4 speed od has a big gap from 2nd to 3rd. I had 3.50s and 31 inch tires, which made it worse. With shorter, narrower tires like 235 75x15s, or similar, it would be more responsive.
Mine was a shorty. Filled up fast with two bikes in it. Good luck with it.
