Back when my 2011 was about a year or so old the a/c evaporator developed a leak.. evaporator was replaced by the dealer under warranty and the a/c system recharged...ever since then it has seemed like the a/c hasn't cooled quite as well..anyway fast forward to last week it was 102 here in spokane, wa and my a/c wasn't cooling well at all..put the gauges on and the pressures looked pretty good..vent temp between 46-50F..seems like it should be getting colder than that...I recovered and I recharged in the 26 Oz of r134a like the sticker in the engine bay calls for..still 46-50F air out of the vents with 85F ambient temp outside..stays the same whether idling at a standstill or driving 55 mph down the road.....Anyway my question is, is this the best the A/C in these trucks can do, or is there something wrong with the system? What is everyone else's A/C running temp wise?
A proper operating AC system will cool 25 to 30 degrees below ambient. That is one reason to use the recirculating feature once the inside has cooled. Your system appears to be operating within specs considering the info given.
I will post gauge readings on my next day off (tues) when i get the gauges back on it to give more info...but I have a feeling you are right..46-50f is the best it's going to get...riding in my sister's old 1993 escort with its original r12 a/c spoiled me..that beast blows 33-40F..man I miss r12..
I would think it could get a bit colder than what you are reporting. Have you looked at the condenser in front of the radiator is it caked with bugs, dirt, etc.?
Here is mine @ 94 ambient and 31% relative humidity with the truck in park and SEIC enabled to 1200 rpm. It gets colder driving down the highway.
Well..my impatience got the best of me..took to truck to work (1hr drive) and about 15 min into the drive the a/c temp got down 42 (dash said it was 85F outside) about 3/4 the way it dropped down to 39F out of the vents...I guess I just didn't give the system enough runtime to stabilize after i recharged it... i will find out for sure if i got it dialed in this week when it goes up to 100 for a couple of days..

You are looking at the outside ambient. The proper comparison would be cabin ambient vrs. vent temp. Esp. when in recirc. mode.
Systems are usually designed for 25 to 30 degrees below ambient. In recirculation mode it's drawing air from inside the cabin. That is where the comparison should be. As the cabin temp. drops the spread to outside will be greater than the interior ambient spread. Hope I explained that as clear as mud. Think about your house AC. The return registers are in the house. Thusly that is where your spread will come from. Ambient room to duct discharge.
Well..it's still acting up..was 79F out when I left work..cranked up the a/c and it was blowing nice and cold then it started blowing not so cold..stuck the temp probe in the vent 54F...wouldn't get any colder than that...I will get the gauges back on it tuesday..
one thing I forgot the mention in my first post..when I had the gauges on it the other day the pressures would constantly go up and down..much like a CCOT a/c with the compressor cycling on and off..low side would drop to about 20 psi, high would climb to about 200 or so, then the low would go back up quick and the high would drop..it would keep doing this..but the compressor was not cycling on and off..I put a flashlight down on it and verified this.. Is this normal? I've worked on older cars with TXV's and I've never seen them act like this..is the TXV controlled electronically or something on these?
