I have a 2007 F350 6.0. It’s bone stock with 130,000 on it. I tow a 5th-wheel with it that weighs 9000 and when pulling a grade the temp will skyrocket. I don’t know exact temps because my gauge doesn’t show numbers but the fan doesn’t kick on until the temp is already almost to the 3/4 mark and it will continue to heat up till it’s almost in the red zone. I’ve had to come to a complete stop a couple of times before it would cool back down. So I guess what my question is, is what can I do to get my fan to stay on or turn on earlier, or should I switch to electric fans?
Best thing to do is get a OBDii adapter and an app for your phone like Torque pro or FORScan. When you have a monitoring device you will be able to see the true temps of oil and coolant. It will also allow you to see fan speed.
Without this monitor you will just be throwing parts and money at the truck.
There is a “blue wire” mod that will also you to hook the fan to a switch so you can manually turn it on.

Do you have any recommendations for the obd2 adapters? And do you know how hard the “blue wire” mod is to do? I’m pulling my trailer again in a few weeks and would feel a little better if I could manually turn on my fan.
