I'd finally got my 351w running in my other frame. however, at idle it seems to be knocking. (I think, a kinda metallic sound like a hammer hitting something). Its hard to tell since I have open manifolds. However, when I rev it up to over about 1500rpms, the sound goes away. the other thing i've noticed is the oil pressure is reading on the L or normal all the time whether its idling or higher. they only thing i've done to it was change the carb, intake, and exhaust manifolds, and put on a oil filter reallocation kit. I think the oil filter is hooked right; the center hole on the block is plumbed to the center of the filter, and the same around the edge. it's also an auto tranny.
it runs good, and it ran good before it got swapped out of the old truck, aside from the carb running really bad.
any ideas? the motor has probably sat (in a truck) for about 2.5years, and I did change the oil. could have the old oil plugged some oil passage ways, or is it something really bad? the previous owner claimed to have rebuilt it at 100k, and bored it .020 over, and the truck had 140k on it.
If you haven't let the engine fully warm it will show high oil psi for a while until it warms up. Keep in mind some people have trouble with the relocation kits but I would rule out the first thing first. If you haven't messed with anything internal or rockers then I would say it is your timing bump it down a little and see if the knocking goes away. There is a slim chance it could be the carb running lean but I would lower the timing first. Good luck
I never thought of that. I put a new 600cfm edelbrock, I was messing with the idle. I was meaning to put a light on it. I'll have to try both. thanks man..
