Like to get opinions on side window wind shields, the aftermarket type that I've seen either plastic or stainless steel. Considering them for my 2010 daily driver Ford Ranger. Thanks for your input. Normally hang out in the 73-79 and 87-96 Forums.
I bought my '96 F150 in Nov. 2012. It had the black see-through window shields that start at the diagonal arm of the door frame, and curve to a top shield. I have no idea how long they were on the truck, but they've become brittle and cracked in 5-1/2 years. I think they help keep rain out when the windows are partially open, which is handy when the A/C doesn't work!
I really like mine. The ones on my old truck were on it when I bought it and had it for 9 years. The current truck I have has them too. Had that truck for 2.5 years. Both survived fine. No idea the brand.
I really like to be able to keep the windows cracked on hot days and know I dont have to worry about a burst of rain.
Edit, let me say that if i bought another truck and it didnt have the guards, it would be on the short list to install some.
I have them and they do help with letting you keep the windows cracked open on hot days. They allow you let dirt in also by keeping them open! Anyhow I have them on both my trucks and just got a set for the rv along with the bug deflector. They become noisey when driving as the air flows over them. Do keep some rain out not all if windows open below them any. I like them as I think they add to the overall look for the vehicle if nothing else.
I would add the wind deflector if you are going to put them on, again its a visual thing IMO.
I have them on all my vehicles. Back in the day they were stick on via double sided tape. I've used both these and the in-channel ones. I actually like the stick on ones better because no matter wht vehicle I have put the in-channel ones on that seem to interfear with the window....
I like the AVS (Auto vent Shade) brand the best, and they have a LIFETIME warranty!
Thanks guys for your input, just what I was seeking. As Supercab indicated, I'll check out Auto Vent Shade and will eventually settle on getting a set for my daily driver, the 2010 Ranger. Again thank you.
I have the Weathertech shields on my '01 and they are great. They let me leave the windows open a bit while at work so the interior doesn't overheat, combined with my windshield shade.
