2012 F250, 6.2 with 3.73 gears towing 10K. It has been quite hot and I was towing my trailer up Snoqualmie Pass and monitoring the digital readout for the transmission temperature. it got up to 223 degrees which is hotter than I have ever seen it. I noticed that the analog transmission temperature gauge barely moved at all and was well below red line. I know it works because it reads low when starting up after sitting overnight.
Anyone else notice this? What transmission temp is considered red line?
I don't know where the "red line" value is set; my guess would be 275F.
230F is not "hot" for any oil. Most engine and tranny temp testing done for SAE studies is focused on 250F as a sump temp; held there on purpose to simulate typical high-load stress.
I've never seen mine that hot but I don't monitor it all the time, 217 is the hottest I've seen to date. One thing to check is the space between the cooler and radiator because it can become blocked with bugs and other junk. After the first time I found it pluged I clean it regularly with hose.

In the older transmissions, 250F was the hottest you wanted to run. The tow/haul light would flash and an overheat code would be stored at 275F. Before I left Ford in 2007 we were discussing raising that temp. I think they did raise it after I left.
Yes, 213 for me pulling to the Eisenhower Tunnel. Pulling 11K 5er. 6R100 tranny.
My highest temp was pulling Wolf Creek Pass in CO. With the way the coolers are setup in the 6.2 with the 6 speed you just aren't going to see temps much higher than the 220 range unless something is wrong.

My 2017 really never get above 210 while towing my travel trailer. But haven’t had it in the mountains either
On flat roads and rolling hills my transmission temps are in the 190's Towing up a long 6-7% grade is a completely different animal, especially on a hot day. Nice to know that the 6.2 has been engineered to handle this with ease.
In the last 5 years I've pulled in every condition you can imagine and it hunts between 197 and 210 unless it's a real hard pull and then 217 is the highest I've ever seen it, great set up.
