When I bought my '73 F100 (2WD) a couple years ago it came with 225/75R15 tires. I am in need of new tires. Should not have any issues with replacing the old 225 with 235/75R15, correct ??? Or should I consider a different size than the 235/75R15?
I believe I have the original rims and do not (cant afford) want to replace the rims.

Well, Walmart has the original Goodyear Wranglers only in the 235 size for something like $74 each. There are dozens of tires available in that size.

I like a larger tire and I'm running 265/70/16 with no rubbing.

I'm sure a 30/9.50 R15 would work, or a 31/10.50 R15

When I purchased my 74 f100 sb 2wd I had to get tires for it to get it home safe as the tires on it had cracked side walls so i drove it to the nearest wall mart and had to get 31 10.50 r15 Wrangle off road tires they fit on the Western mag 8x18 front and 10x18 rear. I plan on keeping the front about the same size just 18. and the back same but a little wider. I am i the Sacramento area if your interested in the 15 inch wheels and tires I will be replacing them in a month

 

If the 225 was correct, the 235 will probably also work. To be sure, check the width of the wheel (distance between the rims of the wheel, where the beads seat). Find out from the tire manufacturer what wheel widths are needed for the 235/75R15 tire. Clearance will likely be O.K. if the 225 was O.K.

 

a 235 will be just fine. it's roughly 1/2" taller and wider than a 225. actual mph will be just under 1/2mph over at 20 and 1 mph over at 65. call a junkyard and see how cheap you can get a good set of either as they were the standard sizes for decades so there cheap and plentiful new and used.

 

Thanks for all the insight guys. I ended up buying Goodyear Wrangler 235/75r15 from Amazon. They ended up costing about $75 a tire. I am little annoyed with Amazon & UPS because I ordered 4 tires early last week and 3 of the tires were delivered last Thursday but the 4th tire got lost in transit. Looking at my Amazon account, they are telling me to wait until 8/9/18 until they will step in to help. The UPS tracking number gives no updates. Wish I had seen DogDays comment sooner and went to Walmart.

 

amazon waits way to long. however, when the date hits you will get as a refund as your request.

 

Happy with my new Good Year tires. It is nice to drive the truck with out expecting the old rotted rear tires to blow.

 

Has anyone heard that you are not supposed to use off road tires on a king pin suspension 2WD truck? An old timer who runs a shop specializing in classics told me this after examining my 74 F-100. He said something to the effect of these tires get eaten by this type of suspension, only road tires should be used...

Can anyone verify this or recommend a road/highway type of tire?

 

I have not heard that. I guess the Good Year Wrangle has an aggressive tread (off road-ish) .... I will have to keep an eye on how they wear.

 

I have 235_75_15 on my 74 f 100: plenty of room!

 

He has not changed the offset of the wheels so that´s not gonna be a problem in this case. Especialy with that tire size.
