Duraflaps rear mud flaps design or install problem?
I’ve had them on another truck and loved them. It seems the rears on my Super Duty just fit poorly or am I doing something wrong? These are the no drill pinch plate bracket design. They just won’t mount flat and are concaved making it a perfect funnel for mud, crud, and water to pour down the nice looking side of flap.
Here are some pics, anybody have any ideas. I’ve already emailed Duraflap with pics though my last time contacting them, they were clearly bothered I was contacting them with issues. Anyway, this will be my last time doing business with them.
Do you have any other pictures that show a wider view? I'm curious if you have the factory fender flares. It looks like you have a gap at the outer edge to the outside/back as well? None of what you are showing seems right.
I have some Duraflaps in my garage since my truck is not here yet and they don't look right compared to the installation instructions they sent me before I ordered. What they sent me was something with a large ~4x8" metal plate already attached. They emailed my different instruction showing the large plate, but I expect the same results you have just from looking at them.
Please reply with whatever they tell you, if anything.
I don’t have factory fender flares or any for that matter. The flaps I received had the appropriate part number according to their website. They also had the metal plate already attached to the flap, which pinches onto the fender lip when you tighten the three nuts. The bottom two bolts tighten into the existing holes that hold on the little plastic corner protector. The inside bolt tightens into a little bent metal bracket that when tightened clamps onto a stamped inner fender well plate, which is offset from the fender lip.
We’ll see what Duraflap’s response is. If it’s anything like my last two interactions, it’ll be my fault.
My truck has factory wheel well liners so for my Duraflaps I had to drill a hole in the liner and put a bolt thru it with some big washers on either side. I clamped it in place with vice grips in order to drill the hole and ended up with a flatter fit than yours but it still catches plenty of debris. I’m thinking about cutting a small piece of rubber and hanging it from the liner to flap over that hole. I guess that’d be a mud flap for the mud flap.

Background ground bolt looks way too tight, as does one of the foreground bolts, and I don't know how any mudflap will keep particulate from running down other side, even if it was straight it would still get dirty. Probably why they got annoyed if you gave them that reason. I installed flaps to protect from rocks and damage; muddy water running down the back making them look 'dirty' is an afterthought.
But, if the issue is salient enough, get some foam insulation tape, and run it on lower fender between the mudflap.

The problem with not tightening down the pinch plate bolts is the mud flap has about a 1/4” to shift around and because of it’s weight it will. If I keep the inside bolt loose, when slightly shifted it pops off the stamped inner fender piece. I suppose not attaching the inner retaining bolt is an option.
Duraflaps is irritated with me because I emailed them with a question about installation, to which they replied read the invoice email attached instructions, which I never received, so they said to read what comes in the package.
Then I was missing two pieces of hardware for the rears and they responded as if I must have misplaced it.
I’m probably knit picking...the missing hardware was readily available at a hardware store and I’m that guy for asking them to send it to me.
I have the same no-drill Duraflaps and mine don't fit like your's. Had them on for a year now. A couple of those bolts do look too tight to me as well. Maybe they are off a little on the hole. Could happen I suppose. If they won't help out I'd probably just drill another hole for the inside bolt to relieve it so it will sit flat. You'll still get stuff on the backside tho even if it's flat.
That fit looks terrible and I were you, I'd be really upset. IMO that fit is off. I would demand a proper fitting set or a refund. Charge it back on your credit card if you must. My set fits perfectly. I would NOT accept it the way yours looks.
make sure you double check the install. The installation instructions are on their website if you don't have them.

I sent duraflap a pic and they responded it appeared I tightened the bolts too tight. I loosened everything up to the point I could move the flap around and it didn’t help . So, I drilled another hole in the flap for the inner attachement to try and flatten it out some. That didn’t help either. Most likely because the inner fender stamped piece sits back a few inches from being level with the fender where the other 5 bolts attach.
In the end I gave up and ordered Husky mud flaps/wheel well liners to cover everything up. These big heavy flaps aren’t worth sending back.

I want to first assure everyone, especially @KEVPOPPAPUMP that this issue will be looked at and resolved.
If indeed you did send us this photo and it was not addressed correctly, something definitely went wrong. That is not how we do business here.
I am sorry this was not brought to my attention. I am out of town at trade shows, but will be back the end of the week to take care of this. Since you have already purchased other mud flaps and attached them, and are clearly happy with the coverage you are getting, it would seem my only recourse for you would be to send you a UPS label for return, and then refund your money. I do want to get these back to see what was shipped. Clearly, you did not receive the right mud flaps for your truck.
Please send me an email with your name so I may look into this further and take care of it. My email is dennis@duraflap.com

That is not what mine look like at all. Something is wrong. It is a shame you did not follow up with them completely. They probably would have fixed that up for you. I have had DuraFlaps for years, and have nothing but good to say about them. I even ordered for with flares instead of without, and they took care of that for me.

That's awesome you coming on here and reaching out to him.
I also am a longtime user of DuraFlaps and never had any issues with mine, 179K on them and my '11 dually. I have front and rear DuraFlaps for my '19 dually sitting in the basement waiting on my truck.
