I am working on my 79 f250 4 speed manual with a NP435 transmission and NP205 transfer. It had a 300 straight-6 in it, and i want to put a 460 in it. I was wondering what the best crate engine would be and what all needs to be done for this to work??
spending alot of money,,,,,,,,I would if i was you, rebuild that 300 six ,its the diesel of gasoline motors and enjoy your truck welcome to fte find a fresh 460 .351m/400 belhousing.L&L flywheel/.pilot bearing ,clutch,,motor mounts
Towers do not work. And most crate motors are missing a lot of parts. You have what I will be looking for as my next truck, so I x2 on rebuilding the 300.
It would sure be a lot of $ and time to do it. Plus you are going to probably end up fabricating some things being as Ford never put one in there. You would have to come up with rear sump oil pan and pickup tube, towers and 460 swap mounts, flywheel and bell housing and clutch, all the brackets, A Super Cooler radiator, some sort of exhaust and on and on. I've been looking to come across a alt bracket from a van for years now with no luck, they are like gold, I'm still running my home made brackets.
