hi:
would u a/c guys help me please?
a couple of days ago i suddenly had water dripping in the garage floor from my 82f100 I6. i knew it was water because it was colorless and had no odor. there also has been no loss of coolant. there is no water inside the cab.
plus the location of the drip made me think of the evaporator. i crawled under there and sure enough it is dripping from the bottom seam of the evaporator case.
chilton speaks of a drain for the evaporator case and tells me to make sure it doesn't get clogged.
so what's the problem? I cannot find a drain on the evaporator case
would someone point me in the proper direction? in case this is not the solution what else should i be looking for?
thanks

hey 94van:
thanks for the reply.
i guess i didn't make that very clear. the water is dripping from the seam on the evaporator case.
i haven't found the drain.
i find it difficult to accept its working normally because this is the first time in 21 years it has done this.
any other suggestions?
The drain is integrated into that seam on the evap case, just a slit cut into the bottom of it. If its just clear water dont sweat it, it sounds normal to me. If it was green and oily it would be reason for concern. It may just be very humid and accumulated a lot in the evaporator core. In contrast I rarely see one that doesnt drain out some after sitting. Remember the temps are dropping outside and evaporation has slowed, so some residual on the ground will take longer to dry up.
Every vehicle I've had (well, almost) leaves a puddle on the ground after the A/C's been on. That's something I always check when I walk to or from my vehicles. I have a habit of looking under the vehicle as I walk toward them to spot any oil or coolant leaks.
hey homer:
u told me what i needed to know! thanks.
i guess i didn't do a very good job of discribing the problem.
i know the evaporator will drain a little after use. this truck is not driven more than once every week or two. after being parked for about a week the evaporator case is still dripping water.....enough to puddle and run 4/5 feet across the floor. that makes me think there's lots of water in there so the drain must be clogged.
i was looking for a pipe or whatever......i'll go back under there and look more closly for the slot u mentioned. it has to be plugged.
thanks again!
That could very well be.. a bug might have crawled up there and died. Common anomally. A good shot of pressurized air may clear it up. You also may have gotten caught in a heavy rainstorm and it filled up the cowling with water and slowly drained out there. I know its a stretch by I always try to think of those odd things that may throw one off a bit.

thanks....that's a good practice. i didn't do a very good job describing the problem. look at the previous thread to get more of an idea of what is really happening. (homer winzlow)
sorry i got u off on the wrong track......but i think the problem has now been discovered. i was looking for a pipe and i guess there isn't one......seems it is a slot.
hey homer winzlow:
last year i had to replace the heater core. when i got in there i found what seemed like 5 pounds of leaves, acorns, a couple of small rocks, and even what appeared to be carpeting. i also found the same thing in the fan housing and evaporator case.
i tried cleaning and vacuuming all that out. i'm betting that created dust, chips etc and clogged the thing up
