So. let's say your serious. If your stuck on a new unit, they'll let you strap on and pull it for a weekend, If they won't just don't/

politics taught me that!

I got lost with the replies before when I first posed the question at the start of this thread about 5ths and towing. I know what the book says, but I know what some have done.

I’ve been looking at a new truck but it moves me away from the 7.3 which sucks and it’s a RAM of all things.

I figured I couldn’t use this truck. Just really don’t want to move away from a 7.3 lol ah well, I’ll still have one I guess!!

Neighbor sitn on 37s w/8in lift..02 cclb 4x4...tows a 40ft Sierra T.H. with 1 4dr rzr in it and another rzr in a piggyback design that attaches to the rear of trailer. The wheels under the carriage basket has what you'd see on a forklift..effin crazy looking, let alone, additional 12ft to trailer...only has DP chip...no gauges..nada

Hook it up and run it across a scale. Make sure that you don't exceed axle weights.
Also make sure you are using a high end brake controller.

20K???? Like 20 THOUSAND????? Now You're Trippin Thru Wally's Wacky World..... You get in an accident towing that much weight with a Truck not rated for it, Your insurance will Run away screaming for one......Then They will notice your truck is not registered to haul anything close to that weight. Now you're automatically at Fault for the accident....Most DOT's Start requiring CDL's at 16,000Lbs.

The newer RAM trucks had sub-frame cracking and breaking issues, be cautious...

As well as water pump issues.

Perhaps a Freightliner M2 is in your future.....My neighbor just got one used to pull his 40' Rolling Condo.......as close to the perfect 5 hauler as one can find. Unless you can find a F 550 or 650.

Man, Those M2's give me the wood all day Long, although the 650's are moving into my price range rapidly. and some of them have 7.3's in 'em, or a Cummins 6. I'm never let'in my baby go, but the brakes and GVRW is the weak point when you're haulin Olympic Class heavy.....

I'm draggin a 31' fiver at around 11-11.5k and I get some pucker going anytime I start going down a 6-7% grade. I'll in my mind I know.... I just don't want to be one of those pictures you see on the DOT websites!

For some reason this ad actually reminded me of one we saw on our trip this summer, it had about a 12' custom "bed" Directly behind the cab they had a Smart car parked perpendicular to the truck with a cool ramp setup to drive it on and off, would you still call it a Toad? Behind the car a couple feet was their 5th wheel hitch with 40+ foot 5er

Those things are the most uncomfortable things you can ride in..... unless it has an air ride suspension on it. If it doesn't buy yourself a neck brace and a mouth piece.
