Hi have a 2005 excursion Eddie Bauer 4x4 6.0 with 3.73 ratio which I like to trade for 4.11 fue to tire size increased, want to keep my rpms , they are good and running 👌🏼✌🏼
4.11 is not a gear ratio that is available for the sterling 10.5 either from the factory or aftermarket. Closest you can get in a factory axle is 4:30 or 4.10 in a aftermarket r&p
There is one other thing to watch for. The gas 10.5's are 2 pinion. The Diesel 10.5's have a 3 pinion differential to handle the extra power output. Especially if you tow, make sure the differential you swap in is strong enough.
Pinion in this case refers to the spider gear pinion in the differential carrier. A 2 pinion means 2 spider gears, and a 3 pinion means 3 spider gears. Look at the pics in this article to see a 3 pinion Traction lok being rebuilt. http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/tr...-traction-lok/
The 4.10 ratio was the only optional ratio for the Diesels and it usually had to be ordered from the factory as dealers did not normally stock them. So there are very few in the 4.10 ratio. The 4.10 was not available to the gas Excursions.
You may have a hard time finding a used axle in 4.10. It may be that you have to bite the bullet and have new gears installed.
Well, I went down to the basement and dusted off my bound Source books. This might help your search.
All years of Excursions are listed as 2 pinion for the gas vehicles and 3 pinion for diesels.
2003 and below Super Duty trucks are listed the same way. (F250,350,450)
2004 Trucks are as follows:
"2 pinion with 5.4 (330 CID) SEFI V-8 engine and regular cab 6.8L (415 CID) SEFI V-10 Engine
3 Pinion with Super cab and Crew Cab 6.8L (415 CID) SEFI V-10 Engine and 6.0L (363 CID) V-8 Turbo Diesel engine."
2005 Trucks (all models) use the 2 pinion only for the 5.4L. The V-10 and the Diesel are both 3 pinion.
