Good point.... I was 'thinking' about engines in general and pretty much all the major brands do the OLM reminders.
Dating myself but back in the 60 s seemed that a lot of folks worked off mileage alone and didn't pay much attention to time. That said the mileage interval was often 2,500 to maybe 4-5k.... of course carbureted motors were way dirty (rich) compared to today's injected motors!
I DID go "full retard" and bought Motorcraft 15W-40 at Wally World for $3.50/quart. Didn't you start another thread about Rotella being available at $3.25/quart after rebate ($19.99/gallon - $7 rebate)?
You can definitely go beyond 12 months with a quality synthetic. I’ve done it many times and then had Blackstone analyze the oil and they questioned me why I changed it? They oil was still great to use seven after being in the engine for 2+ years. Not sure you can get away with that with dino oil.
I would change to synthetic when you determine your first oil change should be performed.

Sams club has Rotella T6 5W-40 for $51.69 for 3 gallon pack. Rotella rebate on the 3 gallon pack is $21 so that’s $31.69 for 3 gallons. That works out to $2.58/quart.
I always like to get the build oil out fairly soon. I've done it will all new vehicles over the years. I put the Rotella T6 in at about 1400 miles and went with the Motorcraft filter as I think it has reasonably good quality- silicone anti drain valve, synthetic media, good surface area and so on. One reason for the T6 was it's on the Motorcraft approved list and it's available at Walmart. Having done a lot of turbo 4 cylinder high performance engines over the years premium oil keeps the turbo's alive for seasons versus trips, so I figured it must be good for the diesels too. Don't want to coke the bearings.
