Best Excursion

I am the current owner of a '97 F-250 HD 7.3L Powerstroke and a '96 Toyota Land Cruiser. Really like both vehicles and enjoy knowing they will be around for years to come. I wish the Toyota had more room and got a little better fuel economy. Thinking about selling/trading the Land Cruiser and moving to an Excursion with a Powerstroke. Looking for advice on which year would be the best? Thanks

No real difference between the years body and suspension wise, sure they added a few convenience do-dads over the years like digital climate control instead of manual ***** but honestly no substantial difference.

the largest diffrence is going to be in which engine you want, 5.4, 6.0, 6.8, 7.3 followed by trim level which is your basic ford offering of XLT, Limited or EB

year wise the 7.3 is 99-03 and the 6.0 is 03-05

previous owner maintaintence and care is far more important then year, I’d consider any year if it is in the condition and price range that suits you.

Early models had shallower front cup holders, to the point that it wasn't functional. I had a 2001 V10 limited and still own a 2004 6.0 diesel EB. Factory sway bar on my 6.0 made it feel much more stable. 5 speed transmission over 4 speed of the v10. The extra power of the 6.0 made it a pleasure to tow with, and felt like a race car around town.

All that aside, what you want to do with it will much better be able to determine what kind of excursion is best suited for you.

Im a lifelong Land Cruiser fanatic and now, dealer that specializes in such. The Excursion with the 7.3L diesel is the ONLY vehicle that comes close to matching the durability and toughness of a Land Cruiser. Id find the lowest mileage 2002-03 7.3L 4x4 Limited you can find, and pony up the cash. (The digital climate control on 02-03 Limiteds and Eddie Bauers is REALLY nice, not to mention the steering wheel controls for audio AND HVAC, on SOME of them, "Limited Ultimate", I think)

Hey, that 7.3 description sounds like my '03 Studwag! I am a casual owner, also have owned/own the following SUV's a 2006 Escalade ESV, a 2016 Dodge Durango R/T, a 2000 Ford Expedition, a 1994 Ford Explorer and a few 70's/80's CJ7's (if I can count those in the SUV group). I just got my 7.3 a month or so ago but so far is STOMPS all of the others I have owned for size, gas mileage, comfort and ability to tote around a large family (I have 5 kids). I currently have the Durango and when I ask the kids/wife which car they want to take - its universal, they want the Supah Duty!

If you can find a decent/well maintained 03 7.3, I so go for it! (other years/engines probably also rock but get a diesel ).
