I searched for this and couldn't find what I needed. How are the bearings in the steering column removed and replaced? I't looks like I can just pry them out and use a bearing seat tool to reinstall them. I'm in the process of rebuilding the column and the bearings, although in place, are very worn and gritty and after a good degreasing soak, they were worse. I think one is even broken and missing a ball.
The column is torn down to nothing, degreased and derusted at this point. I have new bearings for the top and bottom and a new turn signal switch. Mine in a 1969 F250 with a single pin horn and 7 wire system. The plastic retainers were in good shape so I didn't purchase new ones. I also got a new rubber seal for the bottom of the column where it pushes through the firewall.
Just wondering the proper way to remove and reinstall new bearings. Any input or advice is welcome. Thanks in advance. I will work on getting a pic in here. I only have video.
Here is a pic of the bottom bearing. The top bearing is the same. Numbers Dummy, I'm hopping you'll hop in here and post a diagram of the column for a '69.
I know this is an old thread but I’m looking to do the same thing on my 1969 f250 camper 2wd automatic column shifter. Any pointers for lower bearing removal and replacement. Or any video out there that can help me visualize it? Thanks in advance!
