Has anyone successfully mig welded an oil pan? Mine is a 77 F-250 (Motor size 460? maybe? I bought a filter for a 460 and it fit so...), with a pretty sizeable crack about an inch away from the drain plug/hole. Normally I would just go to a scrapyard, but this is serious bow-tie country, and, apparently, was back in the seventies too, so the Ford parts are pretty rare.
I was also thinking about J-B Weld, and wondering if anyone has a story or two about that.

Reason: missed engine size
i have, both with mig and stick welder.
it is better to remove the pan and clean it real good before attempting to weld, otherwise you will get a dirty weld and it will still leak.
for best results, tig weld is the way to go.
+1 for tig although you could mig weld it, but cleanliness is EVERYTHING. Drop the pan, clean with some kind of solvent then hot soapy water before welding. JB Weld would be a waste of time on a leaking, oily pan. Oh, and you can get a brand new 77 Ford big block oil pan on Amazon for less than 65 bucks.
