Trans cooler install question

I know the writeup says you can either splice the smaller lines to the half inch ones on the cooler or you can run half inch and splice it at the other end. I know a few people have run half inch all the way is there any known negative or anyone have any experience doing it the easier way just with the lines already at the front of the truck?

I adapted mine to 1/2" via male/male barbed fittings at the rubber lines at the front of the truck where the factory hard lines change over to the factory rubber hoses. Be sure to use hose rated for ATF and good hose clamps.

I used stainless right angle barbed elbows from a beer brewing supply house Just like this one. 3/8" X 1/2" S/S Barbed Elbow.
The elbows are 3/8" one end and 1/2" on the other. I put them right under the cooler with a very short section of 1/2" hose and ran 3/8" from there. Bend and adapter all in one.. Like Tom says. buy good hose. USA made if you can. There is no difference with a V10 between running 1/2 or 3/8.

As far as where, I found it easier to do it at the cooler. For the v10, the lines are already 3/8", so you can leave all of your hard lines the way they are, remove the old hose from them and just run the 3/8" hose from the radiator hard line to the elbow at the input of the cooler and from the cooler output elbow to the return hard line.

Also, IF you carefully open the hose retainer clip next to the radiator and remove the old hoses that way, you can put the new hoses back on the clip (since they are the same size) and they are held nicely. I took off the old plastic shielding on the old hoses and put them on the new hoses before I clipped them in. It looks factory. I also bought a small section of wire loom to fit the 3/8 hose to cover the hoses all the way to the elbows. That way they are better protected from rubbing. Watch for things they could rub on when installing. I need to get pics of this up sometime.

Apparently I did take one picture of it, but after installation. This is the elbow on the drivers side. Looking up from laying on the ground.

Those barbed elbows are sweet, would definitely make for a little cleaner install, nice find Bion!

I have the clamps and high temp rated 1/2 hose and the barbed fittings. I was just looking at it and thinking I wonder if I really need to go through the trouble of running the new lines all the way back
