Nope. I need to get the new one sent to me instead of Wyoming and put it in. The used one worked ok .Shifting from first to second you had to push in the clutch, take it out of first, take a little nap, put it in second, take a little nap, then let the clutch out. You had to be almost stopped to get it in first.

A lot has changed since the owners manual was published 18 years ago
Ford superseded the Mercon when they had Mercon V reformulated and it is now the proper trans fluid for the 4R100.
Ford really should have just renamed Mercon to Mercon 2.0 to avoid the confusion this caused (and is still causing) when they issued the TSB back in 2006, changing the fluid. Yup, they changed this 12 years ago.

Is there another TSB that covers us handshakers? Cause what's not included in your above list are the standard transmissions, so I guess that means it's correct that we should NOT be using Mercon V in our ZF5/ZF6 transmissions. I'm very willing to bet that many folks - including dealership techs / service managers, never read past the ISSUE part, or never really saw enough ZF5/6 trans to understand that they were not mentioned in the above TSB. I'm also wondering if the transfer case was included in the definition of transaxle by those same folks, just due to the similarity in name.

Called and talked to red line yesterday. I was transferred to someone more knowledgeable when I started asking questions.
They recommend the D4 atf as it is what follows Ford and ZF original recommendation. https://www.redlineoil.com/d4-atf data sheet https://www.redlineoil.com/Content/f..._PROD_INFO.pdf
I also inquired about the High temp atf https://www.redlineoil.com/high-temp-atf data sheet https://www.redlineoil.com/Content/f..._PROD_INFO.pdf
and MTL https://www.redlineoil.com/mtl-75w80-gl-4-gear-oil data sheet https://www.redlineoil.com/Content/f..._PROD_INFO.pdf
Explanation I got was any of these 3 would be good to use in a zf6 in my truck. D4 is the regular synthetic atf, High temp atf is thicker, MTL thicker yet. I am probably going to use the High temp atf when I get my "new" trans in the mail someday. (currently on it's way back to Florida so they can send it to Illinois. (no roads from Kansas City or Denver to Illinois apparently)) My thought as to why are below but I am always looking for other peoples opinions and experiences.
1 The high temp atf is the middle of the road between the regular atf and MTL
2 It is going in a "new" transmission. It should not need extra thick fluid than what ford put in back in 99. I better not have any shifting or noise problems I am trying to improve with a change of fluid since this is rebuilt and that seems to be some of the reasons that MTL is used by us.
3 All star standard says use synthetic atf. They rebuilt it and I am following what they say with the high temp atf so if I have a problem I am not worried about any warranty being denied due to the wrong fluid. No clue what they would say if I used MTL and had a problem.
4 I looked up the citgo mercon v I was using and it is thinner than any of these.
5 Highest viscosity index of the 3 I am considering. I am not educated on it but the engineer for the lubrication division here at work said he liked that one because of that when I showed him the spec sheets.
Thoughts? Opinions? Complaints? Donations

Since Brandon asked for opinions, I will tell you that he and I swapped text messages about a dozen times yesterday while trying to figure out the oil selection and choices.
In my heart I feel that the same fluid Brandon has selected (High Temp ATF) is the right one for my use. Below is the description of the fluid and when it should be used.
- For heavily-loaded vehicles, allowing operation at up to 70°F higher while maintain thicker viscosity than traditional ATFs
- Use where Dexron III®, Dexron II®, Mercon® or GL-4 gear oil are recommended
- Dramatically less evaporation, less varnish of valves and clutches in extreme conditions
Looking at my use of the truck which is hauling the 5th wheel around and the occasional trip to the landfill with construction waste, the "heavily-loaded" fits the bill. The description states "use where Dexron III®, Dexron II®, Mercon® or GL-4 gear oil are recommended" as well, which is key to me. This goes back to the reasoning above that I have gone through lengths to research. I want to get away and stay away from the MERCON V rating, which may be the demise of the ZF6 transmission after long periods of the transmission being in service. Of course, MERCON V might be just fine for the ZF6 too, but I am not going to take chances to save $50...
I have 6 quarts of the Redline High Temp ATF on order and will be pouring it in through the top of the case when it comes in. Summit Racing was the cheapest by about $10 for me.

Hmmmmm, now I am wondering about the Schaeffers All Trans I have been using for the last year. It seems to be doing well, but it's the longevity part I am wondering about. I guess I'll have to look at spec sheets now.
On Edit: It states that it covers all Dexron, Mercon, and Mercon V applications. Here is the spec sheet if anyone is willing to take a look and give their expertise.

Timmy, do you mean that the shifting was all over the place or sloppy?
Byron, based on what I read and learned, anything with MERCON V on it is not recommended for the ZF6. Only the fluids with DexIII or MERCON are recommended. Although, as Stewart posted and I mentioned, a lot of things have changed and MERCON V supposedly works well in all applications that MERCON was called for. I think the MTL was good and would have been OK, but I just want to be sure and I would be kicking myself if I didn't switch to the MERCON rated Redline High Temp ATF or one of the 3 I listed above earlier and something went catastrophic like with Brandon.
It is a personal decision really. A lot of people have been running MERCON V products, like the Schaeffers All Trans for years and hundreds of thousands of miles. I had Amsoil ATF in my truck for over 3 years and it did well. I am simply changing to Redline High Temp ATF because I think it is the right thing to do for my situation and if something does happen, well I can feel confident I did what I could to stop the failure from occurring.
I was going to pour in the Napa, Valvoline or Mobil product until Brandon pointed out the Redline was a synthetic MERCON. This was an easy choice for me even though it is more expensive, I can extend the fluid changes out further.

Yo Sous..more like it was just "loose" internally...felt loose shifting, sounded loose..etc..was bad enough or me to dump it with only a few miles on it. Was skeptical to the point, i wanted to send to joe trans/midwest for rebuild. Even went to AZ to buy a used one but that one, the starter housing area was cracked/chipped...its been 7.5yrs now👍...think, Chris(f350-6) is in my corner on fluid as well

Completely destroyed the drain plug trying to get it out. I did manage to get it though. I had ordered a fill plug when Jason replaced the clutch because it was seized in place.
I now have another plug on order to replace the drain (same part) plug so that this doesn't happen again.
Best price in town for a ZF6 drain/fill plug.
