I know it is 18 years old and up until the other day it worked fine for us. The previous owner had an issue with it as well. Of course he is much more hands on / DIY than I will ever be. He was able to work it out by taking it apart and cleaning it. I called Ford and the key less entry pad for the 2000 is no longer available. Pretty sure I can find one somewhere. If/when I do find a replacement what else besides installing the key pad and re programming will need to be done? Will the key fobs have to be re programmed too? Any one else had this happen.
Interesting, the part number for the 2001 is in fact showing discontinued, while the part number for my 2001 is still available. I just replaced mine in 2016, I simply removed the retaining C clip on the inside of the door, and swapped the touch pad out, nothing needed to be reprogrammed, and both keys are fine too.
I wounder if the difference in years may be the plug or something.
2000 has several one year only wiring areas. I see the keypads on Amazon for 85 bucks and they fit my 2005 but not sure what would be different on a 2000.
I rolled the dice on one from Ebay. Price was right and I can always return it. I'm sure I could have found one locally but, work has me road bound for now.
On my 2001 excursion I accidentally found out a trick when I was locked out once and my keys were inside . I hit the last digit of my code 2 times by accident and miraculously the buttons opened up . I use that all the time now ....give it a shot nothing to lose

Boy, I wished it was that easy. I did try it, to no avail. The one from eBay was a shot in the dark. Again, to no avail. Lesson learned, I found the entire piece wiring harness and all. Hopefully it works.
I can’t seem to find the post that was written with pics on how to disassemble the two pieces of the keypad and clean it. It’s on this forum somewhere, I believe Stewart wrote it up. The whole process shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes. But there are 6 little tabs that unlock to separate the two pieces of the keypad. Once separated you will easily see the green corrosion. Most likely button number 3. spray with some contact cleaner and rub with a cloth or Q-Tipp. Take a couple of pics and we can guide you along the way.

Also, post this in the 1999-2003 7.3L Powerstoke Diesel forum. You’ll probably get more replies since this is also on the FSeries pick-ups as well. Easy fix.
Take the screws out behind the lower red lens on the door and up by the door handle. Remove the light bulb - she’ll be hot. Pop the black cover off by the front of the window and the door panel will slide off.

Not me, but it's in the tech folder.
Scroll down to the bottom of the second post and click on the link for 1975stroppebaja's page. Scroll down to his write-up for replacing the battery on the stick-on keypads and click the link.
The one I gambled on Ebay was from a 2000 Mercury. Of Course, it didnt jive. So, I found a keypad complete with wiring harness from another fella. It was out of a 2000 Ex. Turns out even a broken clock is right twice a day. It was Literally plug and play. The original key pad code worked perfectly and we are back in business. Dang, I learned a lot on this little adventure.
