I'm a proud owner of a 2001 Ford Ranger and I'm interested in getting a bed liner for it. I'm not interested in the spray-on variety. Does anyone know how difficult it is to install one on your own? Is it better to have the dealer do this?
They are easy to pop in. You might have to do some minor cutting on the plastic. Best time to install is after the black plastic has sat in the sun for a while to soften it up.
I think the hardest part is getting one out in one piece. It took 2 people to get mine out.
I have an 01 and had mine installed when I bought it. Didn't seem to cost much more to have it done than for the bed liner itself but I can't remember the details. One thing I found out was that some after market liners cover the tie down brackets which, for some reason, Ford chose to place in the center of the walls at the bed corners. I finally had to go to a Ford brand bed liner and use a tarp to line the bed if I haul loose material that might fall into the bedliner holes.
It is very easy to install bed liners. They simply set in to the bed and there are 4 turning locks. Use the claws of a hammer or needle nose pliers and turn them 180 degree's until you feel the liner ighten. Then you open the tailgate and place the tailgate section in place. Use the same diameter shank drill bit as your self tapping screws and make a pilot hole. Carefull not to drill right through the tailgate and then screw it on. DONE.
it is that easy. That might be why it in almost no more money to get them to put it on. But the truth in another post is that if you require tiedowns then you will have to cut them out or buy a bedline made for your Ranger.
