1987 fuel pump

So I have an 87 ranger manual 5speed. I bought it with a blown head gasket 2.9 by. I dropped an 86 2.9 in it and I think everything is hooked back up except low oil sensor. Well it cranks and cant here fuel pump run. Any ideas where to start? A plug I may have missed?

Reconnect the low oil level sensor & see how it goes. I can't find a detailed wiring pictorial but that sensor probably controls the fuel pump power relay, to shut the engine down in case of low oil level, so if it isn't connected, the computer thinks oil level is low, so won't allow the fuel pumps to run, so to prevent engine damage. Let us know what you find.

Forgot to say, also check the fuel pump power relay & its fuse & the wiring. Maybe give the fuel pump relay a thump, to see if it'll wake up & run the pump/s, in case this puppy has Two pumps, a low pressure one feeding the frame rail high pressure pump for the fuel injectors.

So I cannot hook up the low oil sensor this engine does not have one. And I have no spark either I wouldn't think the computers would be different

OK, no spark either is good feedback. SO, check the under hood power distribution box ECM power relay & fuse too, as if the computer isn't getting power, neither will the fuel pump power relay.
Is the dash low oil warning light now lit, or is it off? What I'm trying to determine is if the low oil level switch is a NO, or NC type, If a Normally Closed type, then place a jumper wire in its wiring electrical connector sockets to simulate it being installed on a low oil level switch & see if the pump will power up, after you determine if the ECM & Fuel pump power relays are working ok. If the ECM isn't getting power, the dash warning lights won't light up at KOEO for their self checks.

Not to sound dumb but does an 87 have a power distribution box under the hood? If so I'm lost. And as far as lights only dash light I get is battery. But I haven't had the truck long so not sure if any others worked.

So I have power to fuel pump relay on both sides but it's not closing the gap. If I do it manually I hear something run. Power to coil hot wire also. So idk if ignition module on distributor could be different or bad all of a sudden.

As pawpaw mentioned some vehicles wont start without a closed oil sender, but an 87 isn't one of them
The only fuses are under the dash on the drivers side
Are you saying none of the gauges are working? Gas gauge etc. Does it try to run with the key at the start position
You should have voltage on both sides of the pump relay only when the relay is closed

Gas gauge works and has power to both power sides of the green fuel pump relay on passenger fender. And hot wire to coil has power when key is on. But I have no spark and fuel pump does not run

If you don't have a code reader, or scan tool, refer to the OBD-1 test hook up's on this web site, http://www.troublecodes.net/ford/e & scan for trouble code clues & post All code Numbers as they can help focus a trouble shoot.

There's 2 fuel pumps (one in the tank) and one below the driver side floor board. if both are not running you need to check for voltage at the inertia switch which is in the cab above where a passengers left foot would be. You might have to pull the rug back to see it. If the button is popped up the pumps wont receive any voltage. You should see 12 volts at the inertia switch for 2 seconds each time you turn the key from off to run.

I'll see if i can find my 87 factory wiring diagrams tomorrow

You can look up vehicle TSB's, wiring pictorials, wiring color codes, connector pinouts here, BBB Industries- Premium Alternators, Starters, Power Steering Products | TSB's & Wiring Diagrams. Probably not as complete as the FSM or what 87 XLT has, but might do until he can get to his.
BTW 87 XLT, thanks for weighing in with needed details on this older model, on which I have limited info.

Ok thanks for the links and I have no scanner or reader. Also I pushed that button on the inertia switch but still appears popped up. If I'm looking at it right. Also would inertia switch kill spark too?

No the inertia switch will not kill the spark. Try tapping on the inertia switch with a screw driver handle, the button should pop up, just push it back down.
Try removing the pump relay and turn the key on 2 pins should have 12 volts. The voltage is from the main relay & from a fuse link
The main relay is behind the passenger side kick panel and you should hear it click each time you turn the key from off to on.

Do you have 12 volts on the "BAT' terminal of the coil with the key on?

And the other 2 pump relay pins are wired to the ECM/computer & to the inertia switch
The ECM grounds the relay to close it.
