LED light upgrade issues
LED light upgrade issues
I did a lot of research prior to upgrading all my exterior lights to LEDs and thought I had everything I needed before starting. I installed all the lights (brake, reverse, front markers, front turn signals) before testing them. Everything works except my turn signals which are somewhat intermittent. I replaced both of my flashers (hazard and turn signals) with electronic flashers. The hazards work fine with both the stock flasher and the electronic flasher.
Now the issue with the turn signals is somewhat strange to me. With the turn signal on I can see the light on the dash come one faintly and stays on (solid) as the turn signal is on but none of the exterior bulbs work. If I hit the side of my truck or bump the wiring they will flash once. If I hit the brake the bulbs will flash once. I had the truck running and got the turn signals to work without issue, shut the truck off and they kept working, then when I turned the turn signal off and back on they wouldn't work.
The only thing I can think of is a ground issue but I was thinking if it was a ground issue the hazards wouldn't work (but again, they are working). Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks

no idea, i have always used electronic flashers in my trucks due to the extra lights on trailers.
try using a regular light plugged into the trailer plug. if the lights work correctly with that setup, the issue is low resistance in the led's.

I believe this is true with most vehicles, but our Fords are extremely sensitive to low bulb resistance and I have seen it cause all kinds of issues.
Forgot to post this a while back. Turns out the electronic flasher I had just didn't work for the turn signals (worked fine for hazards). Bought a different electronic flasher and everything works perfectly.

I added load resistors to the signal circuits and an electronic flasher unit for mine, works nice, changed every bulb except headlights and the charge indicator light to LED, one of the best mods ive done yet.
Which one did you get? The one's I got wouldn't fit in front fuse area and couldn't get to flasher behind the box. Thanks!
