Adjustment for door handle

The handle on my 91 F250 driver door has to be pulled WAY out to open the door from inside. Before I take the panel off, is there an adjustment for it to make the pull shorter? Thank you Sandy

It’s been a while since I had my door panel off but I believe the end of the rod can be adjusted where it clips into the latch

OK, thanks for the info. I'll see if anyone can verify this or offer any other info before I pull it. Thanks again. Sandy

The handle assembly can have problems, the cable can stretch and the sheet metal where the handle assembly mounts can have problems. You will see how it works when you open it up and you may be able to tweak a few things, but when this occurred on my truck it I lived with it until I had another reason to take the panel off, which in my case was the power door lock actuator died. The latch was also becoming a pain so I replaced the door latch, handle assembly and cable, interior door handle, and lock actuator all at the same time. My feeling was and is, I hate cramming my hands and arms into the door as well as risking breaking the plastic trim so I don't take the door panels off until I need to. When I do I try to do any work needed or that I judge will be needed in the near future.

It was kind of a pain messing with the latch as there are so many actuating rods but it wasn't the worst thing I have ever messed with.

Exactly why I asked before I started looking inside. I have heard about the cable stretching. With only 86K on it I hope it will not be that. I'll see if anyone else offers advice and then take it off tomorrow and check out the help ideas I have received so far. Thank you Sandy

I guess for me, I didn't want to band aid fix it and then have to mess with it again in a few months or even a few years. So I just replaced it with an oem part which I expect to give 15 to 20 years of faithful service.

The passenger side door sees so little use is still like new mechanically, while the driver side is like new because of all the parts I have replaced. The only thing I expect to go out on the other side is the door lock actuator as it gets the same amount of use as the other side.

I did not believe this to be correct so I pulled the door panel on my ‘89 since it takes less than 5 minutes to do. It is actualted by a rod and not a cable. According to your profile, you have a ‘94 so that would apply in your case. LMC lists the cable for ‘92-96 trucks.

Mine is rod actuated. I saw no adjustment available. Handle innards were tight but squeaked and moaned bad and I lubed everything. Door works like butter now and a slight pull opens it. Thanks to those that replied. Sandy

91 and older trucks are rod. 92+ are cable.

I would bank on the plastic clip being worn out. Simple 10 min fix
