Loving the new truck so far, but wanted to see what options I have to help with "chatter" across rough pavement. I have lowered my pressures, but didnt know if I can do straight shock replacements for a better ride. Do I have to jump all the way to a carli kit to get any real improvement?
Fox shocks are my go-to for just that reason. I've heard really good things about the Bilsteins, too. IMO either will do what you want *and* change the overall ride for the better. A bit stiffer, but over all a lot more planted and secure, IMO.
Low amplitude, high frequency, wheel motion is primarily shock absorber. A quality set of shocks, Fox, Bilstein, Rancho 9X, etc..., will be the go-to solution for smoothing out the ride. No need for a lift kit.
The one thing people moving to an HD truck forget is spring rate.
I love solid axle trucks. I will not buy an IFS even though ride quality can be better.
That said, the motion of the wheel has to start moving the spring in order for any shock to start working. These trucks are stiffly sprung for a reason and ripples in the pavement do not move the springs enough for the shocks to dampen anything.
Related to Ricohman’s point... for rear end chatter. Consider solastic springs. They essentially give a much lighter spring for the first inch of travel in the rear.
