The exhaust wouldn't cause the stuttering, it sounds like some extended drives may help a number of things on your truck

I agree with Ross that a few trips may smooth it out a bit. I had one that smoked and missed due to stuck rings and valves. After a bit of use, it smoothed out and even quit smoking! Just to make sure you know, that hole is in the exhaust pipe, not the manifold. The exhaust pipe is sometimes called the muffler inlet pipe - same thing. I just sold a new one along with the crossover pipe, to a friend a year or so ago. NAPA used to stock them here in the US, but believe you have to go to outfits that deal in restoration parts to find them now, and the prices have gone up considerably. The quality may vary from the old Walker/Soundmaster offerings, too. I would just replace the pipe(s) rather than going with headers and duals, unless that's what you really want. Mine runs great with just the single exhaust. - Bob
