15K cooling system maintenance

Guys at my tire shop were telling me that our trucks need 15K cooling system checks for keeping coolant at right PH levels or something like that.

Anyway i I don't recall having seen discussions on this and not good enough with technology to do extended searches. Could anyone comment on this and if it's factual and how expensive to have checked? (I m at 11K mileage wise right now) Also is there a warning/reminder light in our trucks for this?

Thx much.

check your manual.. i'm guessing there is nothing in there about cooling system maintenance at 15k.. Your tire shop guys are just trying to rid you of your hard earned money, and give you nothing in return.

did you check your owners manual? Also at the time of purchase, Ford has in the past given owners a one page sheet that spoke about this, the type of coolant and recharge plus fuel filters.

Did check manual and it does speak to checking coolant at 15K miles or 600 engine hours but not specific on how to do it. Sounds like a kit with strips are needed. Thought some of our members might have personal experience checking themselves.

Guys at tire store are personal friends, they were just 'pointing out' this procedure. Currently don't do it themselves and said most guys go to Dealer. I personally like to do my own maintenance where possible and go to Dealer only when mandatory.

Thx

check coolant - at most, it's verify level is correct, and if you're feeling like it, get a coolant tester to verify temp rating. https://smile.amazon.com/Prestone-AF...-no-redirect=1

Senix, thanks! Was it easy to check? Sounds like you didn't need the Ford coolant additive.

Will ll be interesting to see at what mileage / time most guys have to put in additive.

Don't the Gasser use the same coolant as the 6.7L??? would think the strip test at 15k would apply to the 6.2L also correct me if I am wrong

All the new Ford vehicles use the same coolant now as the 6.7. My 2016 Taurus or my 2015 Lincoln don't call for any testing.

Does Ford use a HOAT coolant?
Should be good for 100k.
The old days of cavitation, impingement on the cylinder walls should be history; thus negating the need for coolant filters and additional maintenance.

Actually there is more testing on the new systems than the old. Every 15k test the coolant and changes in severe conditions for the oil burners flush and fill at 60k!!!. Additive can be added twice but no more which is determined during the 15k checks. Need to read your manual.

6.2 scheduled maintenance includes checking coolant concentration using a refractometer at 15K miles.

6.2 and 6.7 engines use use the same coolant.

The truck will tell you when to check the coolant, dont worry about it till it tells you to check it. It is around the 15k-17k mark when it will alert you on the dash
