So you are guessing, have no clue and telling someone who has a question an answer of them trying to take his money without you even knowing about it? Why even post?

Good Lord Man you are so tremendously uninformed it hurts me to read this. Hope everyone will cross check this incorrect information.

I know the 17+ have a different display but would be very surprised that Ford would change it.

mine triggered 2 days ago, I believe this is the 3rd time. Hmmmm

There's a fairly detailed write-up on how to check the 6.7's coolant concentration and inhibitor strength in the OM (ref 3rd printing); see pages 336-339.

Link above doesn't work....

By the time I buy test kit and additive... Probably easier to just buy concentrate and distilled water and change it out and be sure it's good to go...

Guessing dealer wants the price of a test kit to test it. Then more for additive.

So much for long life....

Some dealers will check it for free and some not.

This is a painful thread to read. I mean so much has been discussed on this in past threads, It scares me to think folks are still asking these kind of questions and getting the answer some gave.

2011-2016 trucks pop up a Check Coolant light around every 15,000-17,000 miles. Not sure about newer models.

Test kits used to cost about $80 but did 10 test. With two coolant systems, that means you get 5 total test.
People who don't drive a lot will not get the use of the full kit. It will expire out.before they use all the strips.

There are several test involved in testing your coolant
1st for freeze protection.
2nd. for Nitrite Contamination ( if you add the wrong coolant you have contaminated your coolant)
3rd for Reserve Alkalinity
and last for Corrosion Inhibitor level

If you failFreeze Protection or Nitrite Contamination Flush and refill with new coolant
If you fail the Corrosion Inhibitor. You can add VC-12 ( 48oz in the Primary system and 12 oz in Secondary) You can add this twice during the life of the coolant before you need to flush and refill

per the 2011 SuperDuty Workshop Manual Coolant should be at ambient temps when you do the test. I don't know how important that is since most dealers pull test of hot coolant.

Dealers have different programs, Some will test the coolant for free. Other charges enough that you want to get your own test strips.

I've owned a 2011, 2015 and now a 2017 truck. I checked the coolant every time the light came on with my 2011 truck and I added the VC-12 at 75,000 miles and changed it at 105,000
In my 2015 truck, I just added the the VC-12 at 50,000 and change the coolant at 75,000 because I tow a lot and figured it fell up Severe Service.

Remember you have two coolant systems, Both need to be checked.
If Nobody has every added anything to your coolant. The chances of the Nitrite failing are slim. You fail this test if somebody tops off your coolant system with the wrong type of coolant.

OAT antifreeze coats the engine part to prevent corrosion. If your coolant level drops and air can come in contact with internal engine parts, You will see corrosion. hence it's important to keep the coolant system full to prevent air from getting into the system.

Wow little did I realize how much has gone into this!
The OM for the Tundra was every 5 years check it.
So I'm thinking well maybe all these vehicles really have gotten better. Sigh
Well, Guess I'll have to finish up on reading the OM now who knows what other lil treasures are in there that I took for granted.
So thanks for the schooling. Hey have a great last of the weekend yah'll!
