Question More SCA Questions...

OK, so I left my truck sit overnight, and through most of the day till about 2:30 this afternoon so i would have a depressurised coolant system.... at 2:30 i opened up the overflow and checked the SCA's with the fleetgaurd strip. After crossing on the chart, the # came up 1.4

1) First off was that the correct way to check the coolant?? Temp was 50 out and truck had sat overnight...

2) What is the level supposed to be at?? i have heard 1.5-3.0, and was also told 2.5-3.5 I don't want to screw it up.

3) I picked up 2 bottles of DCA4 at int'l... is that the correct stuff?? the manual says FW-15... but int'l said this was the same stuff.

4)Lastely i got (2) 16 OZ bottles of the DCA4... I have a 97 PSD, so how much does 1 bottle add to the SCA's point??

Sorry this is such a long question, but i'd rather not screw up my new investement!! thanks in advance!

Wink SCA's

#1 - Temp was ok - I prefer to get the sample from the rad petcock but, the degas bottle will work too. Reason I get mine from the bot of the rad is the stuff in the bottle doesn't always circulate around the system as much unless you have a coolant filter w/ a return line tee'd into the degas bottle. Sure some others might not agree w/ this just my 2cts worth.

#2 Try to stay @2.0 or slightly above much higher than 2.4-2.5 and you'll get SCA "fallout" which is hard on the waterpump. The fallout comes from having more additive package than the coolant can absorb. Looks like fine white sand/flakes suspended in the coolant

#3 DCA4 is the same stuff ford sells I use both depending on which is closer to me @ the time IH dlr or the Ford Dlr. Other additives are available but, not all of them are compatible w/ DCA4.

#4 4oz/gal is the precharge point. (Should put you close 2.0 from a non-charged system) System holds 8gals total

You need to come up by .5-.7 to 2.0-2.2 add 8oz and drive for a few days & check again. Probably will end up adding around 10-12oz. I would suggest creeping up to the desired level so you don't accidentally add too much.

Hope this helps.

DG
