I have a 1982 ford F150 with the 5 liter that I recently got when I accelerate from a dead stop if I push on the gas pedal to much the truck dies but if i release the gas pedal quickly it starts its self right back up all on its own I have put it in park and revved the engine up and it does not die in park only in drive I do not know if this problem could be link the the insanely high idle that this truck has I do not know the exact rpm it idles at but i do know that when I take my foot off the break and apply no gas at all it goes at about 15 mph in drive. I have adjusted the idle mixture screws with little to no result. There is no tag on the Carb but i believe from all the research it is a motor craft 2150 carb I have check for vacuum leaks with both the carb cleaner and a smoke machine and have not found any vacuum leaks.
The dieing upon accelration sounds like an accelerator pump issue. With the engine off looking down the throat of the carb open the throttle fully. And you should see two strong streams of gas from the squirters if not the accel pump is NFG and a good indication the carb is due for a rebuild.

I have noticed that the 2 streams on the accelerator pump are very weak and random but i also found a broken vacume line that went to the actuator for the throttle kick down on the choke but I still have this high idle I'm not sure if there is a vacume leak in side the cab that goes to vacume actuators for vents cause currently if the vent is on I do hear a hissing and it is stuck in the window defrost which I know is a sign of a vacume leak but I can not find a vacume leak for the life of me after using 2 cans of carb cleaner and a smoke machine I've found nothing but I also don't think it helps that the people before me have unplugged so many different vacume lines and put gold ts and screws in them what a mess I'm gonna rebuild the carb but I wanna get the idle to come down before I rebuild to save me the headache also the choke does open which brings the idle down alot but not enough
Check to see if the chokes fast idle cam is not stuck on.
With choke fully open the fast idle screw should NOT be touching the fast idle cam.

Remove all the vacuum lines from the vacuum tree behind the carb and cap them off. If that solves the problem then you have an issue in one of ancillary items and it will be much easier to to track down.
If not then it is a gasket/EGR (if equipped ) issue .
By the sounds of it the accelerator pump has gone for a dump may be time to consider rebuilding the carb especially if it is unknown when it was rebuilt last.

I'm pretty sure the screw is touching on the fast idle cam I will check that in the morning to see
