I wish I could be more help Glenn. I'm only about 300 miles away, but I don't know what I could do anyway. I don't have a 5th wheel setup, just gooseneck. I don't think the law would think much of me pulling your setup with a tow rope that far, and then you are still 300 miles from your place here in SD.

If you think you need to get out of walmart, I'd try and make it through today, then limp it to the nearest campground late tonight when it's dark. I wouldn't go far with it, but it's pretty hurt as it is, I don't think a short trip would hurt much more, just make sure its full of oil before you go.

If there is anything you think I can do to help, please be sure to ask. I'd sell you my truck, but I don't think it's really what you want to do right now.

I cannot assure you one would let you park the rig, but I can ask if push comes to shove from Wally people.

Glenn, if Walmart starts to ask what your plans are, see if they will let you park in the back. Most have a large area for tractor trailers to turn around for making deliveries. Plenty of room to stow out of the way so you don’t have a personal camp site on their front lot. It will be interesting to see what you find when you pull the injector. Good luck.

I did and found this. Do a compression test and this block may be the one.

Thanks Nate but that's to many miles but I'll keep it in the back of my head. I don't have any way to pull it etc.

Thanks for that info. I'll call them tomorrow. I need to get it in someplace, in other words I don't want to hear that they are two weeks booked.

Trouble is these campgrounds around here this time of year are pretty booked up. Thanks for getting back to me!

Yeah I thought of that but so far so good. I'm parked over on the side out of the way and there is a gas station on the other side of the road. My two little 2000 Honda generators that are married together and working their ***'s off 24 hours a day. It will run one ac so we are doing jusk OK, its hot out! There is a diesel shop west of here that has a good rep and fairgrounds that you can camp at. If the shop isn't to booked up that might work. Its 25 miles out there though Today I pulled the VC again and unplugged the injector and it doesn't smoke near as much. As far as pulling the injector I asked myself why bother, it would be nice to see what condition its in but I didn't want to go thru all that hassle of the oil draining down and taking a chance of screwing up the O rings. I think I'm forced to take it to a shop anyway. Its just to hot working on black top at 90°. Making excuses, lol

You can do a redneck compression test, key off, in park or out of gear, jumper the starter relay on the fender if you hear it speeding up for a split second you've got bad compression in a cyl. Not very accurate but could give you an idea of what's up.

No! That could be a potential health hazard . There is more than 30 psi so it could penetrate the skin. Major health hazard.
Not trying to be a tool but psd compression I several hundred psi potentially.

I don't think you understood the redneck compression test. You just carefully listen to the motor turning over. All the injectors, glow plugs, etc., are in place so there is nothing spraying or squirting around and not much of a safety hazard. No different than just cranking the motor over, except you are listening carefully. Personally I don't think I have the ears for it unless it's real obvious.

You got it Bob t. You can kinda hear it in one that has bad compression in a cyl or 2 but will still run, but if there's a hole in the piston or ring gone it should be easy. Wouldnt trust it to say it's a good engine but he could get an idea of its health while he's waiting for a gauge.

I also don't have the ears also. As it is now I just have a big miss and the miss is the same now as it was before I unplugged the injector. White smoke cleared up after unplugging it alot. Well, twenty minutes and I start calling repair shops. I hope the table or bench they bend me over is nice!

Do you have an injector you can put in it?

I think you are most the way there on finding it but I am couch side which makes a huge difference. If you could pull the injector it may take the guessing out.

Anyhow I wish you the best and wish I was there to help. I am leaving service for the next ten days or so. I may come down out if the mountains to say hi to nick aka MOOSEMACHINE.

Hey, at least you can load up on Astroglide from Walmart before you get it!

Wish you the best on what they find. I am tuned in for sure.

Wish you the best Glen. That is the worst night mare any buddy has when traveling. I'm leaving Wednesday for about 4K or so. Going up threw Wyoming, Utah and Idaho to name a few. Keep us posted, God bless buddy.

Well, I made it 25 miles to a campsite at a small town's fairgrounds. It used over a quart of oil which I thought it would use more. Ran like crap and leaving Walmart I didn't think I was going to get up the hill leaving there. I switched to a high HP tune (PHP) and that helped a lot. I got about 12 miles and the road was closed with no detour in sight. I asked a construction guy why he didn't have signs up and he said they did, BS! Anyway we made it and in about an hour the guy who runs the shop told me to bring it by. On the phone he was talking about a Jasper or Ford reman. Feels good having all my ac's running but I have to admit the two Honda 2000's got us by for three hot nights at Walmart. I was happy to leave that place! Thanks for the well wish's guys and the suggestion of astroglide, lol Good luck on the 4K trip!

Is he going to find the problem first or just try to find a motor? It would be good to know what actually failed.
