For staters, im working with a 92 ranger w/ inline 4 banger and 5 spd. standard and its 2wd.
It's my brothers truck and he was thinking about putting a 302 in it. I have heard it will fit in under the hood without many probs, but what about matting it to the tranny.
What all are we looking at for getting it done.
Oh, the engine will probly be coming out of a 83 couger.
I think the inability to modify a speed density engine is something of a myth. with proper chip (fuel map), injectors and tuning of the fuel pressure anything is possible. Later
Actually, its not Myth... however, I was wrong my year. SD 5.0's were 86-88.
We put cam's, and new intake on an 87 SD motor with stock computer and it ran like complete crap. Sputtered, bogged, idled bad... terrible acceleration, etc. So we upgraded it to mass air and bought the appropriate computer. Runs like a dream now.

You said it you used the stock computer, a little chip would probably have fixed your problem. There are some people making well over 450 hp on other sites with speed density and blowers so I would imagine a cam swap with a chip should be no biggie, however mass air is a bonus and as you mentioned does work. You can mod it with speed density you just have to tell the computer whats going on. Later
