I need help with an issue with my trailer towing mirrors.
INFO:
2008 F350 Diesel King Ranch
MIRRORS: Electric, Heat, Power Fold
PROBLEM:
I must have cut/nicked a wire when I ran new speaker wire to the passenger door. It has a Giant Molex like plug that connects the Doors wiring to the Body (The older trucks had a rubber boot). I drilled a hole in an empty socket of the plug and must have 'nicked' a wire in the harness that goes under the dash. All functions work on the Passenger door mirror EXCEPT Power Fold.
HOW I WANT TO SOLVE IT.
I want to run a single wire from the Drivers side door Control switch all the way to the passenger door. The Drivers side door has a 22pin connector that connects to the mirror. I cannot find a color chart for the 22 pin plug. I do not even know the name of the 22pin connector. (You know, like a 'C615' or a 'C521')
WHAT I NEED:
I want ANYTHING I can get.
If someone know the color coding of the plug, please tell me.
If someone know the correct model number of the plug, please tell me.
If someone knows of an easier place under the dash to 'splice' the new wire from the Harness under the dash to the passenger door mirror, please tell me. (Need the location and Color of the Wire).
You might try searching for a "pin out" for the connector in question. That term refers to a diagram showing which function on the connector each pin/wire controls. I've found them for my truck but they won't do you much good as its an '01....
You would be better served to get a pinout of the plug. (alldatadiy.com) It would be a whole lot easier to repair the damaged wire in the plug than trying to run a new wire to the other door mirror. Since you have to identify which wire it is you would be halfway there already. Besides, you would probably have to drill another pin position in the connector to run the wire through and you may damage something else. It could be a domino effect if you are not careful.
Thanks for the reply, but that will not work. I drilled from the outside of the body into the truck (with the door off). Somewhere behind the plug (under the dash on the passenger side) I nicked a wire. It is the only wire that is damaged (everything else works everywhere). To get to the plug would require pulling everything in the dash including the dash. There is on one unused hole in the plug and it is being used by the new speaker wire. There is enough room for me to pass the new wire through the plug and into the door. I just need to know what color the wire is... and if there is a closer place under the dash (passenger side) I could 'tap' into so as not to have to run it 'door to door'.....
You really do not know the damage you did with the drill bit. You may have drilled directly into the wiring harness and that wire was cut in two. There may be other damage that will expose itself in the future from vibrations while driving. You could cause a fire in the harness and lose the whole truck. If it was mine I would take the time to find the damage and properly repair it. My family also drives my truck and I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that there is a possibility that something can happen that could harm them. You could have a ticking time bomb on your hands. Why risk it?? You would be the kind of person I would not want to purchase a vehicle from or have work on mine if you won't do the job properly.
Thanks for the concern. But rather that write a book about this adventure. I was just asking for the color.
1) I can see it and it is just the 1 wire.
2) Too much work to replace the entire wiring harness under the dash (after removing the entire dash and everything that goes with that).
3) its been 5 years, it just drives me crazy having to manually Fold the passenger mirror.
4) You know nothing of me and my maintenance of my truck....so that is a pretty judgmental and harsh thing to say about anyone you don't know, and you have no idea the Entire situation
.

I'm not trying to bust your chops but I look at repairs as if I were paying for them. If I would not accept a shop making that kind of repair then I won't make that same kind of repair myself. You can do whatever you want and in the future you will know what you did but if you should happen to sell your truck in the future the next guy will be scratching his head trying to figure out what you did.
I also don't understand why you aren't just repairing one wire if you can see it. You say you don't want to replace a whole wiring harness but why would you if it's just one wire? Your logic didn't make sense to me. You will spend the time to fish a wire from one door to the other but not take the time to remove a couple of dash panels and repair the broken wire. You're right, I don't know you but I do know if your were my mechanic and you did work like that I would not return for any future work. If the job is worth doing it's worth doing right.
Edit to add: If you can see the damaged wire then why are you asking for the color?
Ok...you still don't get it. Have you ever laid on your back, squeezed into an impossible position? Used a mirror on a pole to see a spot? THAT IS HOW i CAN SEE THE WIRE AND NOT BE ABLE TO EASILY FIX IT WITHOUT PULLING OUT THE ENTIRE DASH.....GOD.....You just must love to argue and talk about stuff that you don't have a clue about....
I've been working on Fords for over 45 years and yes, some jobs were a pain to do but they were done right. Here's a quiz. What do you think the FE in my username stands for?
