DTE Range: Towing higher than Normal

I’ve had my DTE set to “Towing” for the past couple weeks and when I switched to “Normal” yesterday the DTE range actually dropped. Towing is about 15% more miles than Normal. Thoughts??

I too noticed that. I was slightly confused...

It changes the # of miles that are averaged to give you the mpg that goes into the DTE calculation. Towing uses a lower number (I think 200?) and regular uses I think 600 miles. My guess is that you haven't gone through a regen in the past 200 miles and that shifted the mpg higher, giving you a longer DTE.

Mine is screwy too. I’ve got about 4000 miles, half towing, half not. The towing DTE is higher than the non-towing and neither number is anywhere close to being correct. I don’t even look at it anymore.

Mine is pretty accurate while towing as long as I’m on the highway and maintain speed. Idk how the whole regen thing plays into things but I watched to see when the filter got down to 0% full and then looked at the difference in DTE and Normal was a few miles higher than Towing. That’s just weird to me!

My DTE is definitely lower when towing than when empty. Both appear to be very accurate. In fact, when I deliver a camper and switch to normal, I can watch the DTE climb as I drive.
I've always dutifully switched to the appropriate setting whenever I hook/unhook to a camper, but have begun to wonder about the value of it. If DTE is based on the rate of fuel usage, it seems it shouldn't matter loaded or unloaded. I've assumed there is some other value in the computation of which I'm not aware.

If you do a search you will see a few different threads on this, but from what I have gleaned in general it seems that when you are on "normal" it is using an average mpg of the last 500 miles, on "tow" setting it is using the mpg of the last 50-60 miles. I fulltime and tow most every week and have also seen some strange DTE values come up based on where/how you were driving over the last 50 miles...

same here and it annoys me everytime. I tow quite a bit and I even made 100% sure I was switching it (forgot sometimes) the last few times and its like DTE 525 miles......no, no its not. I was even resetting my trips and avg mpg when I switched to or from "towing".

Guess I'm just lucky mine works so well. I average 650 miles a day when towing (715 (65mph x 11 hours) is absolute maximum) and the DTE changes depending on speed and terrain, but seems to respond logically to the environment. When I fill up and calculate the amount of fuel left in the tank and multiply that by my average mpg, it comes out pretty darn close to the DTE.
