Meh! We are looking at 108* today with poor air quality. I do miss the central coast for the weather.
Born and raised here when Dad was in the Army, stationed at Fort Ord.
The only thing that will make me leave is if the state government gets too far and too stupidly off center (either way, left OR right) and pisses me off too much.
I love this state, but I can't stand how we as a people have grown so damn antagonistic to each other. I grew up in a small town next to Fort Ord and knew all the neighbors on my street by name. Now? I'm friendly with my neighbors, but I can only name a few on my street, and two of them are my direct next door neighbors, so they shouldn't count because that should be automatic for anyone, in my opinion.
It's so different compared to when I grew up. We used to run loose on the street from sun up to sun down. Nowadays I wouldn't let my grandchildren walk to the corner store without an adult.
When we lived in Sunnyvale, we knew all our neighbors all around us. Maybe a total of 15. We now live rural on a shared road with 8 others. We know them all, and get along well with all of them except for the a***ole. He doesn't really get along with anyone.
BTW - we topped out at 86 today. Warmer than I like, but tolerable.
It was a damn site hotter than 86 here today LOL. Out in the heat all day too. Had to take care of my buddy's dad who went loopy from the heat. Took over an hour to get him cooled down and to come back to his senses.
We were looking at the weather reports last night, and saw that Death Valley was forecast to hit 124. They actually got up to 127, and set a new record. That is just unbelievable.
So sorry Jim. That sounds absolutely brutal. We topped out at 92 today, and I was feeling sorry for myself until I read that. Rumor around here is that it's supposed to cool off a bit this weekend.
I don't go outside much in this heat. Only go out once or twice a week to check the mail/take out the trash. So as long as the AC continues to work, I will be fine. Going to have a heart attack though when the next electric bill shows up.
Keep an eye on the fire lines, and whether any will cross your escape routes. If you're down to one way out, it may become no way out at some point.
That's the good thing in that I have several egress routes and the majority are AWAY from the current fire.
All air traffic out of RDG seems to have been grounded except fire, support and life flights. Boy can I hear the strain on the Bombers' engines as they take off and turn. The flame fronts are less than 10 Miles from the tanker base.
