I have a 2003 Ranger Edge 2WD, 3.0 V6, 5-Speed, Standard Cab, and wanted to know what kind of exhaust or muffler setup I can put on there??? I'm wanting to add a flowmaster or something similar, and dual out of the muffler. I 'm looking for a deep purring sound, not loud and annoying! Any ideas would be great. Thanks!!!
I have the Gibson cat-back (see sig.) From what you said, I think that it is the one you are looking for. It's definately deeper sound and only a bit louder than stock. The advantage with the whole system is that you get 1/2" bigger piping that is madrel bent so that the flow isn't decreased by the pipe bends. Because of this, just getting a different muffler will not benefit you much at all. You can get a non Stainless system for $255 or SS for $255. I couldn't be happier with mine, instalation is a no-brainer. The hardest part is getting the old one out.
Hey would that gibson exhuast system work on a 99 with a 4.0L?
Im getting a 99 Ranger in a couple of weeks and im allready scouting around for upgrades, exhuast , lift , tires ect.. its hard to find lifts because they go from 96-98 and then 00-03.. kinda annoying. Like finding stuff for my dads 91 F-150.. they have stuff for the year before and after but not 91.. oh well.
My stock exhaust has a great tone at idle, but under throttle you can't hear it much. Is the Gibson louder under throttle? If I do exhaust on this truck I want one that is noticeable to people but without getting me a ticket.
The Gibson is louder under throttle at lower RPM's, after it revs, it is less noticeable. Also sounds best when the engine is warmed up. If you're wanting to really be heard though, it may not be the best route. It's sound is deep, not buzzy at all. No rice for me.
I bought a Gibson Swept Side cat-back for my truck and just put it on. It sounds GREAT!!! It's just what I was looking for. Thanks for your suggestion. VERY much appreciated!
Glad to help. I finally got a good highway test in and I like them better than ever. My mileage seems to be up but due to wind and carrying a load and not paying attention to how fast I was going, it is hard to say for sure. Basically I got the same milage as usual, but driving into a 15-20 mph wind, with a light load in back, and going a little faster than I usually drive. My power using overdrive was much better than before. I think you'll find that like me, the more you drive it, the more you like it. Next up is going to be headers or a chip. People keep telling me to get the headers first and then the chip, but I really want a diablo, but that's another song. Good luck with the new system.
