08 Navigator had a issue where the driver side would work 80% of the time. Read online about cleaning the inside of the motor, oiling joints, and cleaning out the inside of the plug. Well when I finished... for some reason the driver side running board works in reverse. When I close the door the running board retract up and closing the door retract down. I tried unplugging the battery, unplugging the motor with the battery disconnected...no go. Yes I've tried putting them in the out position, OFF, and back to auto. I've tried different things to get in back in sync with the passenger side but have failed. Instead of driving with one running board down, I just unplugged it in the down position and set the control to OUT for the Passenger side so my wife can still get in and out easy.
Does anyone know how to reset the running board controller?
Well I found out the problem today. It seems that the step motor cover is the thing the tells the car it's position. When I put the motor back together I put the cove back upside down(it can mount either way). So took the back off again to take a look inside the motor to make sure I didn't damage something. When I put it back I decided to rotate the cover...It now works correctly now.
I hope someone find this write up that made the same mistake I did...hope this helps someone one day.
