staying with stock wheels

Thank you in advance for your help! I like the look of stock wheels and want to stay with them. That said I am looking to upgrade tires. wanting to go to 35x12.5x18 and need to know if these will fit with the 275x70x18 stock rims that the 17' came with? I am having alot of trouble figuring this out. will these fit on the stock rims?

I have the stock 18x8...some places won't mount that tire on an 8"rim... I am currently looking for the 20" factory takeoffs... Then mount bigger on them

I ran 35x12.5x18 on my stock rims. As Truckie 256 said, some tire shops will refuse because most manufacturers of tires that size say you need a minimum rim width of 8.5". Nevertheless, I found a good tire shop which would do so, and I had zero issues running BFG KO2 tires which were awesome.

If you know what brand/model tire you want, you can google it to find the chart the manufacturer puts out that tells you all the sizes they make, the suggested rim sizes, weight ratings, etc.

99% of the 12.50 wide tires will state a minimum 8.5" width rim. So big box stores like Discount Tire, Costco, etc. won't mount them. Any good small shop will do it, and you wont have any issues missing that 0.5" of width.

Tomorrow I am planning on mounting 35x12.5x18 BFG KO2s on my stock 18x8 wheels. Hopefully I will not have an issue with getting them mounted. If so I'll have to find another shop.

If you are about performance and drivability then forget the factory rims with that size unless you are running a "mall crawler". They are too narrow to run that size properly however, they will look cool until you look closely and see where your tire is not making close to full contact with the road.

that claim is a bit much for .5” of wheel width. Your caution is definitely appropriate, don’t expect a chain shop to install, and don’t expect to make good on a mileage claim. BUT... I and many others have run oversized tires for legitimate off-road use that go marginally outside the tire manufacturers spec... that perform fantastically off the road, not just in the mall... and last advertiser mileage.

dont put 13.5’s on an 8” wheel. Consider an 11.5” if you can find it in the diameter you want over a 12.5”.... and use common sense when driving something with oversized tires, even if you decide to get a bigger wheel.

Ok if you say so.. Go ahead mount them then on your drive way I use water then drive through it slowly look at the contact patch. You will be shocked. Been doing this stuff for 40 years. You may think it is performing brilliantly but in fact -- not really.... Also the tire will not flex normally during normal driving due to the out of design spec sidewall of the carcus flex.

With all due respect for your 40 years of "doing this stuff", but these are 6000 lb plus trucks where performance and driveability are highly subjective, even among members that have the same "exact" tires......tire sizes, tread patterns, side wall flex, inflation pressures, etc etc are discussed frequently and there is no shortage of "opinions" on the subject. The consensus here seems to be a big box store won't likely mount them, but, the OP will be fine with his 8" rims - I agree.

Well been in the tire side (landing gear systems) of the Aviation part of the business for almost 33 (Supply Chain/Management) years worked with our engineers as well as Michelin, Goodyear and Dunlop developing tires and qualifying tires MLG and NLG for the F-16 (radial bias ply done before I hired in), F22 and all 3 variants of the F35. Sorry, but the design of the tires is rather technical and the performance envelope is defined --- "Bubba" engineering is just that. In the end everyone has an opinion and some have more validity if you will than others.
Performance and looking good do not necessarily go hand in hand. Cannot tell you how many morons I have run across who run tires that rub when they pull into a parking lot just as an example lol. In the end it is your throat your razor and you are accountable for it..

^^^^^* Not an expert, but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night!

I know not much about tire engineering. I’ve spent some time around engineers determining what tolerances to put in documentation. Let’s just say Rock Paper Scissors could be involved in the last significant digit.

You know, I just don't get it. This is supposed to be a forum where people share ideas and opinions. No one, and I mean no one should be shamed, blasted, flamed or belittled for their ideas or opinions. We are all here to help each other. I for one really appreciate the honest information presented here. You don't have to agree with "fact" if you don't want to. Nevertheless, it is fact and you can't change truth just because you disagree. I am going through the same dilemma, whether to mount oversize tires on stock rims. I value the the facts even if I decide to go against them. But to bash a guy for posting the truth just because you don't agree with it, or have a different opinion, is against everything this forum is about and I'll say something whenever I see this kind of behavior. Let's keep it friendly and helpful please.
