Something I neglected to mention earlier is that I always use plastic zip ties in the shackle pin to prevent them from vibrating loose, and falling out. If you look close in the photograph you can see them in the small hole in the shackle pins. When I want to remove the shackles I cut them, and replace with new for the next use.
I only leave the shackles in place when towing.
Awesome SB thanks a lot.
That added a lot of clarity for me.
Now I'm in a quandary. Our TT will be on the market soon...( bunk house bed not made for snoring old fat man )
Will we replace it with another or get a smaller 5'r like a 26 or 28' is presently an unknown.
Don't think I can go wrong just getting an adjustable drop ball mount since I also haul a 20' utility with tractor and cutter so it will get used.
We have a lot of deep pillow talk on this one I can see.
Have a great week and again awesome details, it did help reduce my ignorance factor. lol
on edit: I saw the ty-wraps that's cool. My old avionics days kicked in and did a safety wire tie. No 22 twists per inch with .032 safety wire but same technique using rebar wire. I carry loads of limbs and felled trees to the dump so looks like the shackles have a full time home. Heh.
I pull a variety of campers with self mousing hooks and the ‘S’ hooks and haven’t felt the need for any shackles. If you place the hook behind and parallel to the bracket then rotate it forward it will easily slide onto the bracket.
x2. At first I fought the hooks (2017 F350 with 3" receiver) until I learned the trick is to hold the hook facing up and at a 90* angle to the shank. Insert and twist. Removal is opposite. Press the clip down, rotate hook 90* and it drops right out.
You folks with the 2.5" receivers might have different experience...
