So, I've seen a few 10k clips and shackles being used to hook up the tow chains.
Problem is that as an old fart All I've seen are the clips or shackles; not how the chains are actually hooked up.
And just not getting the mental image.
I've got the large spring clip hooks on the Outback TT and the S-hooks on the utility trailer.
If some of you folks would be so kind as to post a pic for a simple man to get a glimpse then I can go to TSC and get what i need plus that height adjustable ball cause the 2" drop is now a paper weight it seems.
Have to take TT to dealer to get weather seals replaced and have large stumps to haul in the U-trailer so will be needing to get ready in another two weeks or so.
Thanks folks....and oh yeah sure is good to be back in a SD, missed my old PS.
bump for you, I think part of the problem is how you wrote what it is that you need?
As far as I can understand you want to know how to hook up a weight distribution hitch? And how to hook up the safety chains. Best to cross them if they are long enough.
I thread the chain through the holes and then connect the hook or S to the chain.

Negative on the WDH. and the X-ing over.
After reading many comments on how the chains do not fit the receiver slot many have to use shackles.
problem I'm having is a hard time visualizing how the chains ('s' type and spring clip type) are run through the shackle and secured.
oh, I understand now. You have the newer style hitch and those holes are much smaller. Not sure why they did that, but yes, people are using shackles to make the connection..
You may need to convert the safety chains to shackles as well so that you can make the proper connection.

I've seen guys with these new trucks attach a heavy duty threaded chain link to each side of the hitch where the safety chains are supposed to hook, then use the existing hook on the chain from the trailer onto the threaded link. E-Trailer has the 10k ones that are stamped with the working load limit so they are legal.
Take a look at the attached, perhaps this will help.
Perfect...thanks.....don't know why I have these moments where I just get tunnel vision or vapor locked and cannot grasp a mental picture.
Anyways, this is what I was looking for.
For the 's' hook I'm thinking the S-hook would slip through the D-ring and then hook onto a chain link.
Looks like I'll be at TSC this weekend!
Have a great weekend yah'll
I pull a variety of campers with self mousing hooks and the ‘S’ hooks and haven’t felt the need for any shackles. If you place the hook behind and parallel to the bracket then rotate it forward it will easily slide onto the bracket.

So now that my shackles are installed like the ones you have; I noticed some details.
If I may be so bold as to ask about the ball mount and what appears to be chains for a WDH.
The adjustable ball mount looks like one on eTrailer I've been looking at.
But the eTrailer unit has two premounted *****, the 2" and 2 5/16" ball.
Did you remove the lower ball and install a WDH adapter plate?
I'm not even sure I know what I'm asking not being familiar with a WDH and then looking at the adjustable ball mount.
When you get a chance, a little bit more detail on the ball mount assembly would be a big help.
Here is where my ignorance shines!
Thanks much in advance.
The hitch system in the photo is the Andersen No Sway WDH.
The ball mount is part of the WDH system.
That particular mount is for a 2-1/2 inch receiver with up to 8 inch drop.
The chains going back are what provides both the anti sway control, and the weight distribution.
The hitch system works great, and I have zero sway in heavy cross winds, or when passed by a big rig.
Best hitch I ever had.
