56F100 4x4 Build
This threat will serve as my build log. I'm going to start off with saying I just combed through 103 pages of topics and I swear the lines are starting to blur together. I need someone to tell me what to do. More importantly I need someone to tell me HOW to do it. That said, what setups have you guys seen on 56F100's for 4x4?
I want to redneck mine out. I'm talking about lifted 4x4 on 35's with possibly a diesel. I'm not after a show truck, it will be daily driver and a weekend mudder but I want it to be comfortable. Budget is probably around 16K. I already have a complete body and it's almost already down to the frame. I also have a 460/C6 in my possession but I'd really like to run a diesel. Something with AOD maybe? I'm flexible. Let's start here and see what we can build together.
Might add that I'm a complete novice in deep engine work or body modification but I pick things up quicker then the average bear. Just never had a reason to get into something like this. Up until this point it's been general maintenance, brake & rotors, etc.
Picture below is not my truck but what I want.

I’ve been planning to build my 56 on a 84-88 Toyota Xtra Cab / Reg Cab Longbox 4X4 frame for several years. The wheelbase is 112” which will put your front wheels in the right spot in the front fenders.
My plan is to use an 87 or 88 truck as they had Indy front suspension and bigger brakes. I would probably run an LS engine and the Toyota 5 speed and transfer case.

Nice. I'm actually thinking of trying to stay as much "all Ford" as possible. So something with 112 inch wheel base will keep the wheels centered in the fender wells? I've looked at some other 4x4 builds and have discovered I like the way F600 fenders look on the truck. It gives that front tire more room. The guy that did that also moved his rear axle back a bit in order to get a longer wheelbase. I think his mods are out of my ability lol.
I talked to a guy about doing the work for me and he said I should look at a 76 F150 as a donor vehicle to get what I want. I wonder what those measurements are.

I believe that truck you have pictured is owned by someone on this forum. It was a 56 on a 2nd gen bronco chassis.

I have to say that you are talking about a rather HUGE project for a complete novice.

WDGLIDE I just realized I posted the wrong photo. Take a look at this one below. It's exactly how I want mine, minus the stacks.
What this guy did is take the suspension from a Dodge 2500 and graph it to his 56 frame after he boxed it. He even put the Cummins from that truck in it.
I'm a novice in respect to deep engine work, pinion angles, or how to change valve timing. Novice or not I'm pinned in a corner to where I'm going to have to do this myself. I literally can not get anybody to do the work for me. At least no-one dependable. I've put up Craigslist ads, called every shop anywhere close to me and no one will do it or knows how to do it.
I'm just going to continue to research and do it myself. I think last night I was frustrated and tired after looking so hard so I posted for help.
